Fire Extinguisher Siting
Where is the Fire Extinguisher normally stored or fixed in the Devon/Stanton. Mine is fixed to the nearside bench seat at the rear of the passenger seat and would be very difficult to get to in an emergency.

Re: Fire Extinguisher Siting
Mine was the same...you can remount it behind driver's head on wooden upright.
As an ex Firefighter I would usually advise putting it near the door or exit, but I would imagine in this case it is for use only really for cab area (dash electrics, engine fire etc) and I would not advise using an extinguisher within the habitation area for two reasons, 1. it is probably dry powder and would be a little harmful to breath in and create poor vision, and 2. Just get out and call the fire service...not worth risking life or injury especially as it will be insured.

Also an ex Firefighter and I agree with what you say re use but situated where it is when we try to make singles we find a large gap between seat and bench seat. Thank you for your reply.

Hi,
Has anyone re sited the fire extinguisher on a Warwick XL, it is at present fitted by AS on the left of the drivers seat base and has been trodden on quite a few times.
Have any other XL owners found a better site for it?

I resited mine adjacent to hab door on hinge side near handrail with mounting bracket fixed to van wall. convenient and near escape route if needed.

Same place I fitted mine, easy to reach from outside as if there is a fire that is where I will be.

Thanks for the replies but I have a Warwick XL. I have had to leave it under the bed/ seat at the moment, could be a problem if we had a fire.

Assuming the Warwick is similar to the Fairford, I repositioned mine from the bottom of the drivers seat to the hab door.Twiggy wrote:Thanks for the replies but I have a Warwick XL. I have had to leave it under the bed/ seat at the moment, could be a problem if we had a fire.

A fire extinguisher should be at the exit so that you can get out and then deal with the fire from the relative safety of outside the van.
Personally, and it’s only my choice, but having being involved in power generation/electrical switch rooms and offshore fire fighting, I would choose a CO2 extinguisher instead of a dry powder one with the caveat of ensuring the other half was out of the van before discharging the extinguisher.
We also keep a fire blanket that we attach to the upper passenger seat belt anchor point.

Re: Fire Extinguisher Siting
On our 2015 model Stanton it's on the floor attached to the side of the passenger seat. No idea how many times I've stubbed my toe on it! If, like we do, one fits a Silver Screen over the windscreen and cab windows, that's not exactly handy as the only way out/in is via the hab door. I've got a larger motor-sport compliant foam extinguisher, which lives next to that hab door.
I'm sure that Lucy and big-nuf would advise getting out asap and grabbing the bottle as you go, or if already outside, get away and make the call.
Having been involved in motor-sports for over 50 years and having seen what can happen very quickly; I'm surprised that the motorhome construction industry is so lightly-regulated; has it changed since 1960?

Re: Fire Extinguisher Siting
Mine had been screwed to the front of the n/s bed locker and prevented rotation of the passenger seat. I resited it on the side of the fridge cabinet by the habitation door.
