Nuevo EK Empty Nuevo EK

Post by Eltel Wed Oct 10, 2018 3:17 pm

A fire extinguisher was supplied fitted by Autosleepers on my Nuevo EK between the seats next to the drivers seat.

Are there any recommendations as to where else it could be fitted so I don’t keep stubbing my toe on it.

Likewise I have purchased a fire blanket and I’m wondering as where it’s is best fitted, presently it’s on the left hand side as you access the motorhome (left hand side of the fridge as you look at the fridge door)

Hi Terry

Just inside the Hab door on the left. There's just room to tuck it in, and it's a much better place for it assuming that fires are more likely to start in the kitchen.

Just inside the Hab door for the fire blanket too. If it was safe to fight a fire it's almost certain you would tackle it with the Hab door open, standing on the bottom step ready to leg it if it got too serious.

Hi Guys   On our 2013 Nuevo EK , the Fire extinguisher is located behind the passenger seat next to the Awning handle. Dave's suggestion of mounting it by the Hab door is a better idea  ,as it would be easier to get  in case  of an emergency

Hi Dave

I take it you mean mount the Fire Extinguisher upright.

Much better place as it’s convenient if there are any barbecue fires

Yes Terry. Upright, and immediately accessible from the doorway.

I've just had to remove ours to make room for the patent dog gate.  shrugg

Not quite sure where to put it now as space is tight. I'll find somewhere.

First thing I did with ours was to move it from the floor between the driver and passenger seats and fixed it high on the wall next to the hab door and the microwave oven, near the CO alarm. Handy for reaching near to the cooker, the escape route and for use outside, without having to get on your hands and knees to release it (who thought of that one?). Fire blanket on rear wall next to kitchen window, out of the way of flames from a fire in/on the cooker. Fixed to the rear wall with velcro.

There could be an argument for having one up front, but I can't find it. if you get a fire up front, it will be near all the fuel in the tank under the floor. not something you want to be fighting. For most fires, I would just get out and watch it burn. Your insurer will pay for it all except the thing that caused the fire in the first place, once they have determined what that was.

I fitted the fire blanket in the one of the 2 small shelves on the back wall by the hab door , I screwd it down so it would not be moved and the blanket  could be removed leaving the cover in place .  as per fitting instructions . I also fitted the fire extinguisher behind the passenger seat ,to help with mobility problems .

Hi Molly3

Not sure where you mean by fitting the fire blanket on one of the 2 small shelves on the back wall by the Habitation door (perhaps a picture if you have one)

I think I’m going to mount the fire extinguisher horizontally over the Habitation door.

So it’s just placed on one of the shelves.

As I understand the box that holds the fire blanket should be fastened to a vertical surface, so when you require to use the blanket in a emergency you just pull on the two tabs of the blanket to release the blanket.

correct ,it is screwed down .so the blanket can be removed  leaving the case in place.Be aware that mounting a fire extinguishers to a wall as , it may not be srong enough to support the screws .
