Hehe - a seller who seems (from their feedback) to have never sold anything before, suddenly has five incredibly cheap motorhomes to sell, and is selling them from a business address of "Auto-Sleepers LTD, 32 Teme Crescent Millbrook, Southampton, Hampshire, SO16 9DF" - which is a semi-detached residential house in the backstreets of Southampton. Nothing suspicious there then!

The seller has 5 AS (and no other brands) for sale all at silly prices. There have been 30 or 40 scam listings for AS's every day lately, the same van listed 5 or 6 times each. A lot are removed but still showing until you click on them.
Usual caveat - if too good to be true etc.....

I wonder if any numpty fell for it? I'm always amazed anyone is daft enough to transfer money over without ever seeing what they're hoping to buy.

I am wondering how the scam works. I think much depends on the payment method. None was specified in the listing. Maybe they ask for payment upfront using an untraceable payment method like Western Union or Bitcoin, and then dissapear with your money.Bulletguy wrote:

I assume the address in Southampton is not connected in any way.

I think larger amounts they do. I remember a guy shelling out around £10k for a fancy motorbike advertised on ebay but when he went to collect it the address was fake. I just thought why the hell are some folk so seriously stupid?!! Every vehicle i've ever bought i've gone to view before parting with any money.....even old bangers for a few hundred quid!AutoSleepy_Don wrote:I am wondering how the scam works. I've never answered an ad to find out, but I ~think~ most of these want to take you for a few hundred quid, and no more.
The idea being that people will be willing to pay £200 as a deposit without seeing it - because £200 is not much when you're going to get a van £10k cheaper than it should be. But to a Nigerian (or wherever) scammer, £200 is a tidy little sum...
Having said that, the "fake escrow" based scams are also reputed to be common, and with those they will try to take the whole £5k off you.

They may get £200 deposit from 5 buyers who think they've bagged a bargain before it's removed, a quick grand.

Re: Ebay Symbol scam ??
Buyer beware indeed.
The largest amount I've ever bid up to was 6k for a motorbike at the other end of the country, but not a penny handed over till I'd seen it. Van hire and fuel was less than £80, a relative small amount to lose if the purchase turned out to be a dud, which it didn't.
