12 volt electrics on '03 Symbol
I appear to have blown the 12v habitation electrics on my '03 Symbol, I was inflating the tyres with a 12v compressor & it stopped.
There is now no juice coming from the two 12v sockets in the van. The 3 fuses underneath the driver's seat are OK & I can't think what next to check
I don't use campsites & need this supply to charge phones etc.
Any ideas out there?

Is there a bank of fuses under a flap in glovebox? If not there may be a fuse box in engine bay or under a flap on dashboard below steering wheel area. Cigarette sockets are usually only 15 amp, heavy duty compressors can blow the fuses , may be better in future to use crocodile clips direct to battery.

Hi Paul,
It wasn't the cigar lighter sockets that blew, these are perfectly OK.
It was the two pin 12v sockets in the habitation area that are kaput. I don't know where to go from here.

mike, are these sockets factory/owner fitted?.... many owners might add new 12v sockets straight from the battery with a fuse in line of any cabling...
perhaps you have to follow the cabling backwards?

The fuse is in the habitation 12v distribution system, where exactly depends on the electrical system you have?

Chris,
The sockets are the two pin type fitted by A/S at the time. Up to now they have been fine, I prefer using these to the cigar lighter plugs.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

A picture of your electrical control panel would help - those are the original sockets.

The control panel is the original Plug in Systems that A/S fitted at the time.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

That's same panel I had in my Nuevo. The switches on mine were marked 'reset' at the top of the rocker. I assume you just switch off and maybe hold to reset . There were no fuses elsewhere in my Nuevo except under driver seat.

Those switches are minature circuit breakers.

I gather the habitation 12v distribution system is under the front driver seat, but the three fuses are OK[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

According to the circuit diagram (generic so may not be perfect) the 12v socket is part of a switched circuit that feeds ignitions and control panels so if everything else is working it must be the wires to the socket.

Re: 12 volt electrics on '03 Symbol
As said, the two switches on the right are circuit breakers. I believe if they are tripped the red line at the bottom should no longer be visible, and as Paul says, you reset them by pressing the top in. However, the ones in the photo do not appear to be tripped - though they do have a reputation for failing with age.
Assuming that you've checked your owner's manual and the circuit diagram in it (if it has one!) reveals no more detail, realistically all you can do is pop the sockets out, note the colour and size of wires attached and then follow them. Initially removing the 4 screws on the control panel should allow enough of a view of the wiring at the rear to see if they terminate on any of the breakers there***. If they don't, time to look at the rest of the wiring - especially adjacent to the leisure battery - to see if you can spot where that wire type/colour appears.
You don't say, and your original post is vague on this point - is it fair to assume that all of the other habitation supplies (water pump, lighting, etc) still work OK?
*** do this bit carefully, because it is not uncommon for there to be loose wires which can come out of the terminals, and if you don't watch carefully you may find it hard to figure out where they came from!

The whole habitation electrics is up the creek, water pump, lighting, heater etc,

If you have a multimeter I can only suggest that you start at the leisure battery and work outwards through the relays to the control panel and find out where the voltage disappears. If you cant do that you need to find someone who can.

Re: 12 volt electrics on '03 Symbol
I've inadvertently fixed it, I was messing around on the control panel, switching things on & off when I turned the master switch off and on, Hey Presto! everything came on.
Many thanks to you guys for the input.
