Seatbelt provision on side facing seat.
Hi All,
Has anyone fitted side facing belts to their AS Symbol?
My van is a 2002 with one travelling seat, and I'm interested in getting some views/ advice on this subject.
Kind Regards

There is so much advice AGAINST this I doubt you would get much support.
Notwithstanding what the law allows for a vehicle of your age sideways belted seating options are inherently dangerous. The vast majority of accidents involve impacts from the rear or front which side belts provide no protection from and in some case can magnify any trauma severely.

I spoke to Charles Trevelyan a few years ago prior to his retirement and he said in their term of ownership of AS they considered along with others that lap belts on the side seats could cause more injury than not having a belt. Lap and Diagonal Belts were out of the question due to mounting requirements.

If you think about it, there's be little point in offering ES option front facing rear seats on A/S Van's if all it took was to fit a fourth seatbelt to the side facing bench. It's inherently unsafe in an accident and these days it's probably impossible to get a responsible business to fit them.
