Rear view driving camera: not wide angle.
Hello. Previous roof mounted Veba is defunct. I have a wide angle 170 degree (3mm focus) chinese system mounted to bumper with a chinese monitor mounted on the mirror. Great for reversing but even when permanently on - as a rear viewing driving mirror - the images of following vehicles are tiny.
What I need is a second camera/replacement with a narrower angle of view. From reading, it would appear that a camera lens of 12 to 16 mm focus would work as a rear looking driving camera that I would always on.
I have read the bulk of the articles on this site about reverse cameras but havent been able to source one to act as a driving camera.
Do any of our colleagues know of a fleabay one that would be OK ?
Regards. IanD

Hi Ian
There was an extensive thread a few months ago, but I can't immediately find it.
I'm fairly sure it debated the pro's and con's of the different kinds of sensor, and suggested some good buys on FleaBay??

Re: Rear view driving camera: not wide angle.
Hi. Like you I had a read through a lot of articles but couldnt find a recommended camera. Certainly, reverse cameras are mainly 3mm focus with a wide 170 degree field of view.
One used a bullet shaped security camera of 12mm focus but they are bulky
and may not be compatable to my monitor. Seems TTF and PAL are oft mentioned.
So still looking. Anyone found one?
Thanks. IanD

Thanks Peter. Good site with a range and adaptors too. Narrow angle camera is the thing for a rear view driving aid.
I will be hoping to adapt my bits and perhaps get one of the narrow angle ones - although a little pricey - but that's me. Anyone found an ebay variant?
Regards. Ian

Re: Rear view driving camera: not wide angle.
You get what you pay for. I had a cheap dealer fitted single camera and it deteriorated from being poor to useless over the last 6 or 7 years. I have recently replaced it with a dual camera setup from parkingcameras.com. I am deleriously happy. Both driving and reversing rear views are superb! The definition is pin sharp, so good that I can read number plates (well, could if they weren't mirrored). Both the cameras and the mirror mounted monitor are first class. Initially I was disappointed that the wide angle seemed too narrow as I cannot see the extremes of the rear bumper - but I can see the road to either side of the van and can run the guide lines along the kerb for parallel parking. The driving view is a very normal rear view mirror field of view. At over £200 it's more expensive than DRW but the specs are higher and I don't regret the extra pennies.

Sorry for the delay in the reply but needed to get info together.
As some know I have ventured to "the other side" now having a Wildax
Anyway Fitted as standard is what you may be looking for NOT CHEAP to say the least
Camos CM-5180M the M is important as it gives rear vision and well as parking
Found someone who sells with specs

You do get glare and on a Wet M5 in the dark I switch it off but overall would give say 8 out of 10

Re: Rear view driving camera: not wide angle.
Thanks Heanorboy. A good lead.
At the moment it is difficult to get hold of items - out of stock etc -probably the boat from China hasnt arrived to replenish stocks.
I will start by pulling out my wide angle kit and put myself on a waiting list for some narrow angle tackle. I doubt we will be doing any long hauls in the present situation.
Once again, thanks to all who helped me out on this.
