rear view camera
Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend a rear view camera for our Duetto we would like it hard wired and not wifi.
We have an old Verba rear view camera at the moment, but the picture equity is very poor.
Thanks in advance..

Re: rear view camera
Depends a lot on how much you want to spend.
There are loads to choose from, which becomes very confusing, but I expect they are all more or less comparable within a price range.
Ours is a Veba (A/S fitted) and it's not very good, so that would be my negative recommend. The monitor is OK, but the rear view camera is far too "wide angle" - exactly the same as the downward looking reversing camera. By the time car approaching from the rear is big enough to see in the monitor, it's half way past! (I exaggerate only slightly.)
If you have an hour or three to spare, this might help.

P.S. The Veba website is next to useless!!! Still talking about "New for 2012".

Re: rear view camera
agree with mr Gromit. I couldn't find the right key press to make the A/S fitted one stay on but having not found it much use as a rear view I haven't missed it and get by on the door mirrors.
I do like it for parking though and with that and buzzers I have only hit one thing going backwards (so far).

Re: rear view camera
After removing the troublesome rear parking sensors from our Symphony I looked at replacement units and rear view cameras but have actually plumped for a Fresnel lens stuck in the rear window. Very neat, around £5 and nothing to go wrong! Now when I look in the rear view mirror I also get a view almost down to the rear step. Works well for me!

shows just how much we really want all the latest gizmos that come with the modern van.Stronga wrote:After removing the troublesome rear parking sensors from our Symphony I looked at replacement units and rear view cameras but have actually plumped for a Fresnel lens stuck in the rear window. I've also thought about this, as human vision is often far superior to video, even when accounting for unusual views.
Did you do any research - and do you have a link to what you bought?
Thanks

Re: rear view camera
This is the Fresnel lens I'm using:

£5.58 - much more expensive than I'd remembered!
Of course this approach will only work if you have a direct line of sight from your rear-view mirror to your rear window, and the same again to the rear of the van. On my Symphony that's no problem but I'd have thought it would be worth checking on a coachbuilt.
Cheers

Re: rear view camera
Thanks,
We do have a bike rack, but it's probably worth a punt at £5.58 to see whether it will give me a view of the area near the rear bumper.

Re: rear view camera
On my van I have a fresnel lens at the TOP of the rear window. That way I can see the roof of a car behind straight through and the whole vehicle (looking further away) in the fresnel lens.

They used to say that a Fresnel lens on a plastic window could cause grazing, OK on glass though.

Re: rear view camera
I had one on my Hymer for over 10 years. The only change was that the fresnel lens went slightly yellow over time.breakaleg wrote:They used to say that a Fresnel lens on a plastic window could cause grazing, OK on glass though.

Yes, We had one for a number of years on our clubman and I can't say that I noticed any difference.
But it was often quoted.
