Mains charger - 2001 Symbol
I've just had a habitation check done on my Symbol and have been informed that my mains charger is not working and my gas pigtails and H/P hose are out of date.
At what age do others change their gas hoses and how can I check that my mains charger is not working?
If they are right and it is not working how do I go about sourcing a like model (CTTH/12A) battery charger for an eleven year old van.
Thanks,
Zimmy

Hi Zimmy,
As far as I know gas pipe is dated and I think the recommendation for replacing is every three years. Re the charger is the light at the switch iluminated if is then off to the leisure battery I would remove the clamps then with a volt meter check to see if there is any power getting to the clamps with the charger switch on. you will of course have to have your van connected to the mains.
Good luck JB

Hi zimmy
Just replaced my original gas hose (13 years old).........absolutely perfect with no signs of perishing even by twisted and folding.
Hoses have got the manufacture date printed on them........new hose fitted was manufactured September 2011!!
Suppose someone will ask if I am Gas Safe qualified? Well I'm not, but competent to fit a bit of low pressure hose and test for leaks.
With regard to the charger, I did a quick Google and if you have time to trawl through the listings I'm sure you will either find a replacement or a repairer.
If you are successful let the Forum know as it will help others (and me) when ours fail!
Good luck.

Hi Jaybee
Did what you suggested and removed clamps and put a meter to them while mains and charger were switched on and it gave me a reading of 13.75. I presume this means my mains charger is not faulty after all. Thanks.

A well used saying I was brought up with is:
"Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear!"
It works, especially when someone is trying to sell you something!!

If your gas pipe is the black stuff then 2 years max, if its proper propane hose then 3/4 years should be ok. False economy to keep longer

Just one other small point on the subject of gas hose, when mine was checked last year the gas feller took off the jubilee clips that I had put on saying that they were not nessesary as it is only low pressure and that they actually damage the hose.
