Reversing cameras? Empty Reversing cameras?

Post by StotfoldPaul Tue Jul 30, 2019 5:52 pm

....and another thing, has anyone fitted a reversing camera to their camper?
The rear of the Trooper seems to be a long way away, and the darkened glass doesn’t help rear vision, is a camera the answer, or man-up and get some stocks of touch-up paint?

Even small cars have them now, can't help you on fitting one but it has to be the way to go! Get one!

Agreed - either a camera or reversing sensors (or some people go for both!) is likely to be a good investment.

I have a rear camera with 7" monitor in my van, it works really well, mine comes on with the ignition and works as long as the engine is running, so not just for reversing.
They are on eBay at just under £40. Advertised as 4 pin reversing camera with 10MTR cable for vans and trucks. Just one live feed and earth required. The tricky part is running the cable to the front but they are much more reliable than the wireless ones.
I wouldnt be without mine.

Agree that wireless (you still need a power cable) cameras are not the most reliable, I have one on my van.
The one amusing perk when driving through a town or city are the stray signals from other cameras that the display picks up. I once stopped at some traffic lights in France and was surprised to have an overview of changing rooms from the nearby department store..

I know what you mean Al, I had a wireless one in my old van, worked great at first then it used to go berserk when I passed my local shell garage for some reason, I dont know what signal it was picking up.

Has anyone tried the dual dash cams with reversing camera that shows the rear window view? Some are on Groupon at only £20?

We have a Garmin reversing camera - it pairs with the satnav. More expensive than most but meant we didn't need another screen.

I will  have / had  three twin rear cameras, one in a Clubman, Amethyst and will in the Hampshire, when I get her.  They  are the Sony twin cameras, comes on when ignition is on , I have mine to come on with the wider. longer view for driving if I want reverse view I switch to the other camera, touch controls or remote,

Didn`t want it to go to reverse automatically, this way I have a choice of which view I want. I think they are brilliant and wouldn`t be without one.Hanpshire hasn`t one, so first job when I get her.

It is the Sony twin cameras wired  to ignition switch. £179 .00 very reliable and the after service is good too. EW Electronics.

Reversing cameras? Empty Re: Reversing cameras?

I have been looking at having a permanent rear view camera so I can keep an eye on my trailer. I have an action camera that gives a wireless signal. I linked it up to my phone and tablet using the manufacturer app. I found that I could suction mount the camera to the inside of the rear window and the view through the tinted glass was super.  I  used a power bank for the camera supply so don't need a separate feed. I just  need to find somewhere to mount the screen on the dash and job done. I think the camera was about 50 quid and I already had the tablet.
