£10 repair - Symbol owners
Our Symbol, I guess like dozens of others has over the years suffered sun damage to the rear bathroom wall (That faces the rear door)
Following removal advice from another member, today I removed the panel completely from the van.
I then set about removing the damaged Fablon type vinyl covering - 99% of it came off dead easy - the hardest part to remove was the
section damaged by the sun.
We bought a roll of wood effect Fablon from B&Q for £10 - enough to do the bathroom wall panel - and the fridge wall panel, so they both match.
I cleaned the panel with methylated spirit - let dry in the sun and the we applied the new Fablon using a plastic scraper to smooth it down.
Job done - panel replaced, looks good as new. Will be doing the fridge wall panel in situ' - it doesn't unscrew like the other one does.
Next step to complete the job is to blackout the nearside rear window to prevent further sun damage. In all about 2 hours to do the job.
Hope that helps someone else
Have a nice day

So, maybe the original buyers of my van had something when they specified it to have the offside barn door glazed and the nearside full metal. It looks weird from the road but presumably stops the wardrobe panel from fading.

I've just done exactly the same thing, but bought my teak vinyl roll from The Range. I've also had both rear windows blacked.

I had someone do it for £60. They use dark film, as they use on other vehicles. I had my car done all round (except the windscreen) for £200.

A friend of ours had the barn door windows on her PVC done for £40. Apparently it has to be glass, the plastic won't stick properly on plastic windows.

If you do manage to stick it on plastic, it apparently cracks the plastic after a while.steamdrivenandy wrote:A friend of ours had the barn door windows on her PVC done for £40. Apparently it has to be glass, the plastic won't stick properly on plastic windows.

Beware - if you have the front side windows done in dark tint it won't be legal! And apparently at least some police traffic cars do actually carry equipment to check that the tint level is within the prescribed limit...

I can see the point in having dark tint on motorhomes, but can't see why it's desirable on a car?
