Result of following arctics too closely!!
Sunday, early pm, at the junction of the A75 with the A711 to Kirkcudbright a well smashed up coachbuilt (not an A/S) had apparently
run full tilt into the rear of a large articulated lorry.
Police were in attendance, with the lady passenger sitting on the verge and the driver deep in conversation with the police.
Two very large artics were parked in the lay-by 50 or so yards further on, so I assumed it was one of these the m/van had rear ended!
This junction has a bad reputation for accidents as it is bottom of a long downhill straight and when vehicles waiting to depart the junction seeing a lorry's approaching from the Stranraer direction are very prone to nip out in front of them to avoid being held up by their supposed 40mph speed restriction, necessitating a reduction in progress of the aforesaid lorry.
The whole front of the m/van was stove in with the windscreen well smashed up so I recon it would be a write off.
Did not stop as things appeared to be well in hand though if it had been an A/S may have done so.

Nothing's changed then Ricky, I used drive for Unigate foods ( 1976/8) from Broxburn ,my Monday route was via Dumfries to Stranraer and back up to Ayr.
Nearly every monday morning there was a crashed truck from Ireland , either in someone's front garden, shop front and one morning a truck had ended up down the gorge below a bridge ,I think it was Creetown, before the A75 was upgraded in some parts .
I used to park up at the Nestle factory and let the stampede head west, young lads in massive Scanias and Volvos.
Pleased to read the couple survived their crash.
Boaby. See you soon

I know the junction very well and you’re absolutely correct, some of the ‘right turners’ take their lives in their hands to beat the artics.
When I’m second in the queue and have a view of the A75, I wouldn’t dream of pulling out in to the small gaps that some of the drivers in front of me pull in to, causing lorries to brake, headlights flashing and horns blaring.
There’s something wrong though if an artic driver can do an emergency stop or slow down, quicker than the motorhome behind can stop.
