Symphony Fridge Problem
The Electrolux 3-way fridge in my 97 Symphony works fine on gas and 230v but the red 12v switch which lights when the engine is running no longer illuminates. I've looked for fuses that appear to be extraneous to the base vehicle and only found a 30A next to the leisure battery and a 20A and 30A near the vehicle battery. All are sound but I believe they are associated with the leisure battery anyway. Other than behind the fridge itself (groan, please no) can someone please point me to where I might find the fuse please?

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
Does the fridge actually work even though the switch is not illuminated?
The neon bulbs in these switches are prone to failure/poor contact.
BTW there are no fuses behind the fridge!

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
The fridge fuse is one of the ones by the engine battery (the other is for split charge system). Have you checked the fuse holder as well as the fuse, they are susceptible to corrosion due to water from scuttle draining on to them.

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
Thanks both. Found a wiring diagram. As you said Paul, one of the fuses above the battery serves the feed to the fridge. According to the AS diagram, it should be 15A not 20A (now changed). The connectors were a bit iffy but now rectified. The feed goes straight from the battery to terminal 30 on a 30A relay then on to the fridge. I have 12v to terminal 30 but with the engine revving I'm getting no volts at the fridge switch. I'm suspecting it's the relay.
I'm unsure if the fridge is working anyway when running. We've just returned from a fortnight in the north of Scotland. Bloody cold in the morning and evening and the fridge was powered overnight by either EHU or gas (although I don't know why I bothered). There were no complaints from the boss about food getting warm but I'm unsure whether the contents were simply kept cold by the outside temperature.

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
Just to close this one off - it was the relay. Unusual but a relatively cheap fix and I learned something along the way. Thanks to Paul and PB for pointing me in the right direction. The most gratifying part was not having to try and pull the fridge out!

Glad you got it sorted.
I recently removed my fridge to clean the igniter etc as it wasn't firing up on gas.
As it turned out, not a big job, so when your time comes.........don't worry too much!

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
I'm trying to remove my Electrolux fridge as not working on 240v. It's a very tight fit, and have not been able, so far, to pull it more than halfway: it seems to want to tilt backwards and then jams. Any tips please? Have tried oiling the sides and pushing it in and out, and am tempted to take a hammer to the rear frame beading to free it up.peugeotboxer wrote:

I can't remember my Symphony layout exactly but if it's over the wheelarch then it will tilt back as that's what supports it at the back. I can't remember what might be stopping it pulling further.

Yes it is over the wheelarch, thanks! I might see if I can slip a thin sheet of plastic under it to aid the tugging!Paulmold wrote:I can't remember my Symphony layout exactly but if it's over the wheelarch then it will tilt back as that's what supports it at the back. Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
Well it came well over halfway out, in fact the back rubber feet came over the ledge, so about 3 inches to go. But there was a final resistance, which I think must have been the copper gas tube: do you remember if this should be disconnected (the joints are accessible)? It doesn't mention that in the manual, just "slide the fridge into the cavity", no "connect the gas supply".paddyinwales wrote:Yes it is over the wheelarch, thanks! Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
Can you get to the bits you need without disconnecting? If you disconnect then unless you're qualified I should advise you to get an engineer to check after reassembling.

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
I've worked on several, in different conversions. On all except one, you could not remove the fridge completely without undoing the gas connection. On the Trooper, for example, you could only get it maybe two thirds of the way out without putting undue strain on the gas pipe, but you only need it a third of the way out to get to and disconnect the gas supply. And of course, don't forget the cabling - IIRC on our current van there are 3 sets of cables.

Indeed. But I might not, as it was several months ago now...

Re: Symphony Fridge Problem
In the end I chickened out and slid it back it, gas and 12v checked and working. Don't know any local gas fitters, and not enough dosh to take it to Salop Leisure!Roopert wrote:I've worked on several, in different conversions. Thanks to everyone for very helpful advice!
