Spare tyre tube?
My van has just passed its mot. But the mechanic said that he was going to check the spare tyre pressure, but he didn’t want to as it has a tube coming out of the valve! He asked me over the phone what it’s for and I confessed that I have absolutely no idea.
I’m going for it now, so can anyone give me any ideas in the next 30 minutes, so that I have some idea when I get there.
Many thanks
Sally

It's probably leading to a tyre type valve on the rear bumper - allows you to check the pressure of the spare without clambering under the van.

Picture attached of the remote valve the pipe connects to. On our van it's under the rear, offside corner.

Re: Spare tyre tube?
Yes, that's surely what the tube is - a connection between the spare tyre's valve and a remote but convenient valve somewhere on the van. On ours it's just to the rear of the rear offside wheel, just under the skirt. Makes it so much easier to check the pressure of the spare.
When I took my Nuevo for its first Peugeot service, I was annoyed to discover a few days later that the spare was flat. I investigated. They didn't know that the spare could be read from the side, so they got at the spare and had used some tool such as a pliers to unscrew / reconnect extension tube. In doing so, they crimped it, so that all the air leaked out. Cost me £30 for replacement tube form AS!
To rub salt in, although I'd told them not to check or adjust the road tyre pressures (as I had earlier paid them £40 to lower the TPMS settings to allow me to run at the pressures recommended by Continental) nevertheless they'd inflated all tyres to 80psi!
Last week, for the 2nd Peugeot service, I told them in writing that if they adjusted any of the 5 tyres I would not pay for the service because I was making that a fundamental term of the contract. That worked!

Re: Spare tyre tube?
If it's in the same place as my Sussex, it's on the upright bit of bumper at the offside rear corner.

Re: Spare tyre tube?
Just to add a comment I bought and fitted an extension tube for checking the spare tyre pressure on our. Duetto and the Rienza. The valve on the Duetto was fitted in the rear bumper. Not wanting to drill holes in the Rienza I fitted the valve to the side of the tow bar with sturdy cable ties. No more crawling underneath to check the spare tyre pressure.

Re: Spare tyre tube?
Many thanks everyone. That’s exactly what it is, an extension tube from the spare tyre, and it’s located exactly where you all said.
So that’s something else I’ve learned.
