Symphony and Symbol Differences ?
Hi,
As it says in the title, anybody know the difference between a Symphony and a Symbo?
Regards,
Chris V

Re: Symphony and Symbol Differences ?
There are afew differences, some dependant on the year. Those that come to mind are-
3 rings on the hob instead of 2
Different oven, door to oven opens sideways instead of drop down but this could be a change due to year
Proper domestic style mixer tap in kitchen and different worktop arrangement over sink.
Large Heki rooflight, again this could be a different age thing.
Thats about all I can think of, anyone know any others?

...and what a positive difference that makes - would folk agree?
Would love such a rooflight in my Harmony. Has anyone been brave enough to do a retrofit on a Symphony, Rambler or Harmony?
Come on, get the jig saws out!

Bartfast, we wanted one when we bought ours. Apparantly AS said it couldn't be fitted......something to do with roof strength? Long time ago now!!

Yes, I can see where they were coming from. As I understand it the GRP hi-top is non-load bearing and so to give the van back some of the stiffness lost when cutting the roof off, I understand there are a series of steel hoops crossing beneath the hi-top. To put in the larger rooflight these would need to be extended around the aperture. Nothing the couldn't be overcome I suspect.
One reason I've looked into this has been that the ceiling on our Harmony has progressively sagged with time. I rectified the situation by putting in more timber cross bracing in the vicinity of the 240V light to give the whole structure more rigidity, and it has performed quite well since. Putting in a large rooflight would be an interesting solution to giving the ceiling more rigidity, by taking a large part of it away!

Re: Symphony and Symbol Differences ?
Hi,
The large Heki rooflight is nice but the wind noise when travelling isn't. Autosleeper fitted the unsealed version and the possibility of actually fitting a seal seems beyond the scope of man. I went into all this when we first had the van and was told it was compulsory ventilation (previous model owners were alloweed to die then?) The price of a seal which may or may not fit is too high. Autosleeper fitted some foam rubber strips for me which actually made it worse, I gave up,
Regards,
Chris.

Re: Symphony and Symbol Differences ?
Chris,
Thanks for the warning on wind noise. This may sound like a daft question, but do you also have a smaller rooflight above the stove? For our Harmony I presume this provides the necessary ventillation. That said, when the top is fully down I had assumed there was no air path through.
I wonder whether anyone else has suffered with this issue?

Large Heki Rooflight
We had one on our Dorset, fine up to 48mph then got the ear defenders out for 49mph and above !
I found a shop in Reading that did all kinds of rubber seals, a right old Alladin's cave, and managed to quieten things down up to 55mph, then got a rollicking at my Habi service for blocking essential ventilation.
Apparently AS were using caravan Heki's instead of motorhome Heki's -is there a difference ?
Our Harmony has a 400mm aperture over the cooker and we've had a Fiamma turbovent put in, not a whisper from it when closed and is no darker when closed than the standard opaque 400mm 3 way.
Hope this helps.

We had a Turbovent fitted when we were advised that we couldn't have a Heki.
Just dug out our purchase receipt and notice that as we had already paid for a Heki. (£179.00), the dealer fitted an alarm instead!!
