Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
Following on from my first post at the weekend, which seemed to stir up quite a discussion, here I am with question number 2.
Before I started seriously looking to buy my first Motorhome, I had a fully comp insurance premium of around the £400 mark in my head. This was confirmed when I was getting quotes regarding the Swifts/Elddis vans I started looking at (still £40k+ vans) coming in at or under this figure.
Getting a quote today regarding a £48k Nuevo I’m looking at, it was nearly £800 with no ‘bells and whistles’ attached that may have bumped it up. For info this was with the Camping and Caravan Club.
I fully understand insurance has many variables but these were like for like policies, am I missing something or are A/S more to insure?

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
Insurance is a minefield of variables. The C&CC and the CAMC can be great prices for some and wildly out for others. I've never had a good price from either. Go on Asda insurance comparison site (you don't get follow up phonecalls) to give you a better idea. Don't forget to give our forum partners Adrian Flux a call and get discount for forum member.

Not sure if your initial quotes were with the C&CC ? Only way to compare the different MHs against each other, which is what I think your trying to do. Is keep every single variable the same, and then just take a quote for each MH that is on your shortlist, and compare. Then of course you can take quotes from other insurers who may give you diffent figures, either cheaper or more expensive.

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
The trouble with Comparison Sites is that they don't really recognise motorhomes, just the base vehicle. Just tried the ASDA site for my Gloucester. Quote £800 for 400M/annum, with £3000 compulsory excess, Adrian Flux Brokers.
Comfort Insurance, specialist Insurer) want £240 with £200 excess. https://www.comfort-insurance.co.uk/

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
A perfect example of the variables I mentioned. I got quotes off the Asda comparison as little as £169 right up to £800. The really cheap ones I'd never heard of (brokers) and checking their reviews I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Brokers such as Comfort were dearer for me than Adrian Flux, so it really is 'you pays your money and takes your choice'.

Thanks, just been on the Asda site and normality seems to have resumed (a couple of the big guys with reasonable quotes).
Saying that, the anomalies everywhere do seem so different to the annual car insurance searches which now seem tame in comparison!!

I was with Highway for about 5 years, switching between brokers each year to get best price but last renewal just wasn't competitive. It's a pity but you have to shop around every year.

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
currently renewing insurance for my 2008 Nuevo most quotes are comming in at about £250 plus about £75 for breakdown cover - I live in Northern Ireland an area infamous for its high insurance rating.
So far Highway (through ADANCE - other brokers offered the very same policy at a higher price) has been marginally cheapest at £239 plus £83 for breakdown

Hi all, I phoned adrian flux for a quote and was pushed from pillar to post so gave up and went with Highway through a different broker with far better customer skills than adrian flux.

For some reason the forum is not displaying my full reply? Suspect it has something to do with emojis.
The bottom line is that Highline haven’t replied and Saga have come out very, very competitive, I really thought they would be a bit expensive so am I missing something?

As was said before, so many variables that for some Saga is expensive, for others Saga is competitive. Just be prepared for bombardment of Saga mail.

Hence the creation of a special gmail account just for insurance quotes and sales enquiries Paul!!
Understand the variables, put in all the negatives and it came out very (surprisingly) competitive.
Anyone with Saga got any comments as to why I should/shouldn’t go there?

Have been with them for 3 years and no problems when you get your renewal next year it will have gone up so ring them and challenge them they will bring it down. You have to shop around for the best deal to suite you, I had a bump in 2012 ( not my fault) and I could not fault them. So good luck with ever you go with. Happy browsing.Dbvwt wrote:Hence the creation of a special gmail account just for insurance quotes and sales enquiries Paul!!

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
Now that my handover date is getting close (next Wednesday) I’ve been getting a few more quotes.
Thoughts would be welcome.
Comfort and a few others have been cheapest, most with a pretty high excess.
Plenty in the mid range, many I’ve never heard of.
Saga and Caravanguard at the top end with a decent excess and a few extras included. Price about £75-100 more than the cheapest.
My thoughts as a newcomer are to go with Saga/Caravanguard for the first year in a brand new van

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
I've been with Saga for about 6 years now, and the proof of the pudding with insurance is when you come to claim. A couple of years ago I did, and can say they handled it very well indeed. As there was no third party for them to claim off, I expected trouble, but the repairs were sorted promptly, and when I pointed out the new graphics on one side looked odd compared with the faded ones on the other side of the van, they told me to get the lot replaced and send them the bill.. I've had two renewals since and the premiums have only gone up by a small amount.

Re: Nuevo EK Insurance for a Newbie
For me as the main driver on the wife's insurance Direct Line have been the best now for 3 years
Could have got slightly cheaper with companies I have not heard of, but their cover is second to non as far as I can see.
Now have car and camper with them so get a discount on both
