No picture but it sounds like the central rafter for the awning. Check the location points on the awning are secure before installing the rafter.

As it would appear the side awning wasn’t explained to you by the seller are you aware you should only wind it out 1mtr max put down the legs to support it and then wind it out in stages, repositioning the legs as you go? When it’s all the way out, peg it down and install the rafter you have found

Yes, it’s the middle pole for the awning.......no idea how it works though lol

Correct advice from Toffee and before fitting the middle pole, you need to wind the awning out a little further so as to go slack, offer up the pole and then wind back to secure. Likely to be a two person operation with a step to engage pole on side of van?
