wynns coolant stop leak
We have apparently had a small coolant leak for over a year. On inspection it appears to be coming from where the radiator side cap meets the main body of the radiator. The main core of the radiator. all hoses and water pump all appear to be fine.My local garage have suggested that I try a can of Wynns coolant stop leak and see if that cures the problem before going for plan B and changing the radiator. Has anyone ever used this or generally have an opinion. We are going to Austria in just over two weeks so I still have time to try it and if it fails get the radiator changed.

I've used Barrs Leaks to good effect - but it isn't a permanent fix.

Re: wynns coolant stop leak
Hi, just my own opinion, I would be happy to put various leak stops in to get me by, and have in the past but if I was traveling overseas I would be tempted to change rad as I wouldn't want it failing while away and have the hassle of getting it sorted, another way of putting it, would you put a puncture repair cansister in a tyre and still take it ? Not me, I wouldn't be able to sleep as I'm a bit fussy, but its your van and there may be others on here that have used it and it's been in for years with no problems, will be interesting to see what the replies are

Barrs leaks! Takes me back Frank to my yoof and a Mk1 Capri that had a radiator made of Swiss cheese. Only ever a temporary get you home repair, I would go for a proper repair or replacement rad as a cooked engine could be very costly to rectify. As Matt says , its up to you, but I know what I would do....boxerman wrote:I've used Barrs Leaks to good effect - but it isn't a permanent fix.

radiator leak
I wouldn't use K seal it's only really meant for heavy machinery big earth movers etc so they can keep them going rather than take them apart I put some in a Landrover discovery that had a leak streaming out of the bottom of the water pump I'm not talking drip, drip I mean a constant stream to my amazement it stopped it but it then leaves a brown sludge running around your coolant system to seal cracks in heads engine blocks etc but what does it do in the long run to narrow passages etc

Re: wynns coolant stop leak
Well i had the coolant stop leak put in last Friday then I read these posts and had a think. On Monday I drove 40 miles to get the van MOT'D. That went well but I couldn't stop watching the temperature gauge. This morning a new radiator is booked for Friday. I couldn't see me driving on Belgian and German motorways in a couple of weeks time like that. Something may still go wrong but at least I have tried to cover all the bases.
Thanks for the responses.

All that any of use can do is try to minimise the risk of failure by maintaining our vans the best we can, I think you have made the right decision, so happy travels and hope Germany is nice , I fancy going there one year myself but on a long list of to do
