It's almost the season for it, so gird your loins and wait for the headlines!!  rolleyes

Naughty !  He means of your battery but don’t worry about that, or anything else. Enjoy your van and use it to the full.
No he didn't.

Think South of France and the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

(That will get Sally guessing if she's unaware of the alleged phenomenon!)
I have no idea, but let me guess.

Has someone somewhere reported stories of people being gassed in their vans.

Good grief. Now that doesn’t worry me.  I’ve just got in from ballroom dancing so my thoughts were on heel turns in the slow foxtrot. Nothing gets in the way of that.

Spot on Sally. It happens every summer and is quite obviously an insurance scam.

Just for interest you may want to have a read of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] statement from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

In a nutshell (see the final sentence) they say that if anyone can find out what gas is used in the fictitious attacks, please let them know 'cos it's better than anything they have!!  Whistle1

Says it all really, eh?

It certainly does.

People love a myth. The current one that a work colleague has just mentioned is that if you display a Union Flag during the World Cup you will be arrested.  The amazing thing is that some employees are now stating it as fact!  As one said, it’s definitely true, he read it on Facebook.

At least I’m only concerned with tinted windows blistering.

Yes though i didn't do the job. When i first had my van it came with no privacy tinting on the side and back windows at all so was one of the first jobs i had done. A few month later i had a brand new Fiamma bike rack fitted by a local supplier.....who scraped part of the film on one rear door window. I was more annoyed that they'd never said anything and hoped i wouldn't spot it, but i did and they agreed to pay for a new piece to be applied.

It has to be heated up (they use something similar to a hair drier) to strip it off the glass, and the application is pretty much the reverse. You can DIY but personally i'd advise having it done professionally who do one window in minutes and make it look simple....it's not!

As to your second "wish"....Heki rooflights, be aware of what you wish for! My van has a Heki 2 as illustrated. Yes they let lots of light in and are nice to have open in good weather. Those are the 'pros'......now for the 'cons'.

They are crazily expensive and not in my opinion that well built. The worst design flaw are the hinges which are made of black nylon plastic and eventually 'weather' and go brittle. The hinge pins are also the same material so suffer in the same way. Yes new hinges can be bought but the part each hinge pin slots into also 'weathers', goes brittle, and if that snaps off the entire rooflight has to come out just to replace the centre section. The gas struts wear with age and need to be replaced though that job isn't too bad and cost around £35-45 a pair.

Apart from the gas struts and rooflight bar everything else is made from plastic....and that's one very expensive chunk of plastic which is fragile and easily damaged.

Last year in Poland i was on a site where a Dutch couple arrived after having a nasty experience. Their rooflight had completely departed from the van as they drove along a motorway. They were lucky though. The van was rented so a replacement rooflight just cost them a bit of time and nothing else.

There is another disadvantage to Hekis Bulletguy.

If you raise it to about 45 degrees, when it's dark outside and you have the lights on in the van (and probably the blinds drawn as well) someone a little distance from the rear of your van can use it as a perfect mirror to look down from above - as it were.

Whoops. Could be embarrassing eh?  BravoSmiley    :0_blush:

LOL....i've never tried that but in my case the 'view' would chase off any young woman!  hugegrins

Another point i forgot to mention is before setting off make 100% certain the thing is firmly latched down otherwise the first slight bump in the road, or braking, and the damn thing will fly open! Not very funny if in heavy traffic with nowhere to pull off the road.

Another "essential" is an internal reflective screen (grey on the inside with silver backing). Similar to car windscreen shields you used to be able to buy from places like Poundland or off Fleabay for little more......but typically as these are purpose made for Heki roof lights they cost £36 quid! Without one your van quickly turns into an oven in hot climates.

I suppose you could make your own up from some radiator reflective padding a lot cheaper.

Well, my big brother (who looks after me) has said that he is going to write to Auto-Sleepers and formally ask for their comments.

Bless him, but I fear he may be disappointed.

Well, spurred on by Jen and Peter’s thread, I drove over to my van today to fit gas struts to the bench seats. I managed to fit 1, but that’s a different story. allthumbz

While there I lowered all the blinds by an inch or so. Needless to say there were no issues, so I’ll keep them that way, until I forget about it.  I hope the original poster can get it resolved when he gets back home.

P.S. these are the first gas struts I’ve ever bought and fitted to anything, and one thing I’ve learned is that you assemble it AFTER you’ve screwed the end bits to the wood.  Because otherwise you can’t screw it into the wood. But you can’t take it apart either.  So you have to order another from eBay

You can take it apart the metal clips can be prised off with a screwdriver, there is a slot on the top to do this. Be careful as it can ping off.

Thanks for all your help with my problem. I love the way forums are a bit like playing with Chuck Berry (according to those who have), a change of key in the second verse, a random chorus from another song, the middle eight bars in waltz time but in the end it all comes back together. I think l might start another thread on the problems with Remis rooof vents and see if anyone can work Brexit into it  - have you seen the price of diesel in France this summer?

Yes....and Germany, and Austria.   censored!

Will be in Poland in a couple of months time and their diesel price is showing an average of 5 zloty a litre.....£1. Much better!

Aha!  That’s sounds good. I’ll give it a go the next time I’m over.

Many thanks
