Considering getting my back windows tinted as per most newer models. Main reason is to give a bit more privacy on sites without closing blinds. Looking for advice pros and cons etc. Whether it is a DIY job or not. Has anyone done it?

Yes, you can DIY but you need to take your time and have a bit of patience. Be prepared to make a mistake and start over as well. It does give you a very good measure of privacy (I used the 5% limo black) but makes reversing at night time difficult. I did the whole habitation area of my Talbot Auto-sleeper.

Had my rear doors done with reflective tint. Mainly to stop the sun bleaching the woodwork inside. You can see out (albeit tinted) but cannot see in. Glass was taken out and material stuck on....on a bench.

This is something similar:

Just read on the second website you listed:

" When the lights are on inside and its dark outside the one-way effect may be reversed. Read more about creating a one way mirror effect, this has important information to be aware of. "

So you'll still need your blinds or curtains.

Hi thanks for all the answers
Not really looking for the silver reflective effect
Not worried about drawing blinds after dark just on getting some privacy during the day and also how it looks from the outside.
Thanks Robbieroy that site looks good and it is cheap enough that if I muck it up it is not disastrous. The Limo maybe a bit too dark but the smoked grey looks about right. Thanks again to all, will let you all know how it works out

Hi Pete

We find that using a small front car windscreen silver reflector, which ‘concertinas’ for storage, is a quick and effective way of achieving what you are after without going to the trouble of applying a permanent window tint. Each end tucks in behind the rear curtains and so it stays in place.

Our Symbol has athermic glass on the other cabin windows and this is a very good way of keeping privacy during the day but I realise that this is not an option for you.

Don't waste your time, I suppose black windows are OK on a bright sunny day on the Med but here in overcast Britain "Black Hole of Calcutta" springs to mind. As for the security explanation, I don't get it, when parking my van I always leave some blinds open & nothing on view. Not being able to see into the 'van would surely whet the appetite of a would-be thief.

There are some very good tutorials on you tube, just type in window tinting
Ive done my trooper and it turned out ok (just make sure everything is spotless clean) get the cheapest you can find and be prepared to use it all in practice ,but once you get the hang of it its not too hard and a lot cheaper than than getting it done professionally
Have fun

I tried it on a double curvature rear window on the Hiace - several abortive attempts, I gave up and fitted a blind. winks
