Height, plus clips
Hi - I’ve managed to identify the L x W X H dimensions, but I’m unsure if the external height includes the habitation air con unit. The official book gives the height of 2.6 metres, but that appears to be for a Warwick. Can anybody confirm if the Sussex Duo is 2.6 including the air con unit?
Also, are the clips to hold the awning handle to the outside of the bathroom easy to source. I haven’t managed to find any but it’s probably because I’m looking in the wrong place. When I get them, is it okay to just screw them into the external bathroom wall, the one that is hidden by the sliding door?
As ever, thank you in advance for any help. Rest assured that I always try and find the info myself first.

Re: Height, plus clips
I would be surprised if habitation air con was included in the height you have found, unless it is standard. I emailed Autosleeper (can't remember who answered) for the height of my Nuevo.
For the record, we had a Truma air con which made the van 2.975m tall. Without knowing the standard height that's not really helpful though.

Hi - the habitation air con is standard on the Sussex Duo, but the books all refer to basic models. I could email Auto-Sleepers but they didn’t bother answering my only attempt at making contact a few months ago. Much more helpful on here!!! I’ll give it a go though, nothing to lose.Idbroada wrote:I would be surprised if habitation air con was included in the height you have found, unless it is standard. There is only one way to measure the absolute height of your truck.
It need 2 people minimum
Get a long piece of wood, it needs a spirit level attached. Put it on the highest point of the roof, ensure the level is level.
Measure down from the underside of the wood to ground. Do this both sides, average the answer.
NOW you should know the actual height of your truck. Add 100mm to allow for errors and NEVER go below anything lower than that.
Write it down, with all your other dimensions, and put them on the sun visor.
Width can be difficult as well, so it needs 2 folks again, measure across the wing mirrors with them in their normal position, then again when folded back. Record that on the sun visor as well.
Length, if you have no towbar should be simple, but you MUST add the towbar into the overall length, we have been measured 3 times now at ferries. We always remove our towbar when using ferries to get below 6m overall

Hi Sally, I'm sure we have a spare grey plastic clip to secure the awning handle in our 'bits and Bob's box in the van. It's yours free of charge, just need to confirm, visiting the van on Sat. Will then PM you for your address. Regards.

Re: Height, plus clips
I absolutely agree with @IanH - the only way to be sure of the height is to measure it.
Mine was way off what the book said. Not because of air con, but because of a Thule omnistor awning and al-ko air top suspension (so I measured it with it pumped to the highest 3 bar setting).

Re: Height, plus clips
The AS overall height figure for my 2017 Warwick Duo is 2640mm without the hab A/C.
I add 100mm on for the AC. I think it a good idea to measure it and will try that tommorrow.

Re: Height, plus clips
I've just screwed my handle on the inside of washroom door. Not too happy with it as the door is hollow but it's holding at the moment. Unfortunately there are two types of handle - the thin one that bends to form a crank and the permanent cranked type (which I have. They have different diameter tubes so make sure you get correct clips. I had to get plastic coated Terry clips for mine.

I would rather measure myself than take someone else's measurements, Better safe than sorry.

Re: Height, plus clips
Hi everyone - thanks for the help so far. I’m away on business so I’m only reading the forum in spare moments, but rest assured I’m taking all the comments on board.
I can measure the crank handle, but my brother will have to help me measure the height of the van.

Re: Height, plus clips
I agree with the others, get the tape measure out to be sure, but I prefer my measurements to be accurate, with any safety margins added on in my head once I see the the layout and approach to any restriction. If I was faced with an advance warning sign of a height restriction that wasn't immediately visible, I would probably use the 100mm allowance that has been mentioned.
My sea kayak sits on its side in cradles and takes my overall height to 11'00", but due to the curved shape was a bit of a pain to get, with multiple measurements taken to identify the highest point.

Re: Height, plus clips
Sally- in answer to another member asking same question, I've just measured by Sussex. It's 2.68mtrs , if you haven't had chance to do your own measurements.

Hi Paul - that’s really helpful, as I wasn’t to keen on going up a ladder! My brother would have helped but he’s not free for 2 weeks or so.Paulmold wrote:Sally- in answer to another member asking same question, I've just measured by Sussex. Just to confirm, that is 2.68 over the top of the air con unit?
Many thanks, it’s really appreciated

Re: Height, plus clips
I'd allow a little extra (perhaps 2.85) as bridges tend to be arched.

£12.95 for a pair of plastic clips is extortion!

Couldn't agree more, but it seems the norm when extras are supplied by the same brand specific to the requirement of the original article. As previously stated, we have a spare that came with the van and Sally could use say, a domestic 15mm pipe clip to make up the two fixings required with a little diy applied.inspiredron wrote:£12.95 for a pair of plastic clips is extortion!
