Combi 6E boiler
Hi, has anybody seen the W18H error on the combi 6E boiler when using the hot water, also a smell of burning when using the boiler and heating together. Heating only appears to be OK.
Any thoughts anybody ?

Re: Combi 6E boiler
Thanks,
AS have supposedly cleaned the inlet and outlets when it was in for the window replacement and hab check, but it's still doing it so I just wondered if anybody else has had the problem before contacting the dealer again as per AS's instructions, they did not appear to be too keen to work on the boiler.

Yes, I have had the same fault which you describe... perhaps twice a year, but it has always cleared if you do the classic switch everything off and on again. In my book that means there wasn't actually a fault at all, but the systems processor was perhaps being over sensitive or had tied itself in a knot as computers sometimes do. That said, it seems the vents need to be open enough to allow the considerable heat generated by the boiler to be dissipated quickly. The other situation I have experienced is when the fan blows air from the vents, for no apparent reason... There is, amongst the tools menu on the Truma panel, an option to reset the system, that may be worth a try.

Ok thanks, will do a reset but I not so sure it will cure the burning smell.

Re: Combi 6E boiler
Mine has always smelled "hot" rather than "burning". I think the boiler is better at providing hot air and hot water together rather than hot water alone which is when mine smells "hot". I tend to have mine on the lower EL1 setting for hot water only, and only switch to EL2 or indeed GAS just before a shower or washing up which seems to reduce the hot smell... naturally it then takes longer to heat the water up... I also always turn the hot water off if the van is unattended as a precaution.

Mine also smells of burning when running on the mains hook up, if it's any consolation, so did my previous van with a Truma 6e.
My previous vans (2016 Bessacarr) smell did eventually fade after around 100 hours of use.

All vents should always be open for the 6e.
The burning smell seems to be associated with heating hot water. If the blown air heating is working i.e the fan is running, it seems to go away.

Re: Combi 6E boiler
Ok just a quick update, when we were away last time we ran the water heater on Elec2/Hot setting and it really did smell so we decided to turn off the water heater and use the kettle for washing up whilst away. Just before we went away this time I ran the boiler on Elec2/Hot setting four times and left it on for some 4 hours each time.
The burning smell has now gone and was used whilst away all ok, so it appears as though dirt/dust somehow gets on the elements maybe and needs cooking off. Will look at Truma drawings to see if it makes it clearer as too why.
Also, I have added an air filter to the inlet hopefully to keep it cleaner.
