That's really neat. Shoe storage in our Sussex is always a problem but unfortunately we don't have that step.

Well done, looks good. I wouldn't dare cut into the van like that.

Thanks chaps. It’s only one cut and at the end of the day, if worst comes to worst, buy a new bit from A/S.

Good idea Stew, unfortunately our Kemerton has the gas heating in that space. Might keep the shoes toasty though!

Go on Don be a devil! Wait till you take a jigsaw to your new coachbuilt sides to install wet lockers by cutting 1 ft by 2.5 ft. Holes in its nice new shiny sides! Go on ask me how I know.....AutoSleepy_Don wrote:Well done, looks good. I wouldn't dare cut into the van like that.

Hmmmmm!!
It didn't even occur to me that the space there might be hollow!
I shall investigate mine tomorrow :)

I’m gonna investigate too but I think the 2017 model doesn’t have a step that broad. I’ll look.

Re: Fairford shoe locker
Please Kas, no more mention of gas pipes and fittings - you know what I mean Arry
Nice work Stew, but you did tell me it was originally going to be a " beer locker ". So is this what happens when the alcohol goes up to 50p a unit, it turns into a " shoe locker "
It's very nice to be able to say something positive on here for a change. And I reckon it's a bloody good idea and a mod with practical use of unused space. Also you have not abused your van in any way, you have made it better. Someday all Fairfords will be built like this.

I'm thinking this would be a great place to hide a safe too.

Well done lads back to where we once were, nice banter with humour and no knockers. That's one reason that this forum was started in the first place. Good info, tips and other innovative ideas to pass onto other members. This one looks like it will actually work. It's a pity that auto sleepers design team don't read this forum as this is good design stuff. Will be getting my saw, hammer and chopper out tomorrow. Well on second thoughts, perhaps not my chopper

Three bills. No, you can't say '* Inappropriate Word *', even though they're charming little birds..

Re: Fairford shoe locker
great idea for a shoe (or beer...) locker.....
small vans are great, but they also need plenty of innovative storage ideas...
if you want to see this done in a terrific way have a look at La Stada PVCs....plenty of large wide drawers, and making some use of underfloor voids..
AS won't be interested, wrong type of vans altogether, but AS owners might pick up a few ideas that could be incorporated...

Re: Fairford shoe locker
Can you buy underfloor voids as an optional extra Chris?
I jest of course, but I'd have some if you could. Very handy! It would solve a minor storage problem we have at present.

Re: Fairford shoe locker
No, Dave, but, even without resorting to a double floor, AS could easily modify it to included fairly deep moulded 'bins' with access covers built into the floor....we had a couple on our Boleros and one was a 2007 and the other a 2010 model, so this sort of offering has been around for a while...
one was for battery storage and the other was a shoe/beer type locker..
please feel free to take the Michael, Dave (even in jest) but it's touches like this (and more) that make the difference between two (on the face of it) similar vans....
implementing good design need cost no more than implementing design that lacks the fullest thought....
and as I said above, creating and maximising storage in small vans need innovative thinking to drive out beneficial solutions.
