LPG adaptors - Page 2 Empty Re: LPG adaptors

Post by Sally Mon Apr 23, 2018 11:18 am

Hello campers

Quick update: I’m taking it back for them to sort out the faults. While there, I’m going to tell them about the very poor handover and ask them to do another when I go back to pick it up. If there’s any issues I’m going to point out the bit on their website that talks about their aim of total customer support and satisfaction.

Let’s see what happens

You do not need an adapter for the UK, and don't worry too much about the filler cap either. Even if you have to get some burly gorilla friend to force it off, and possibly break the lugs, it's very cheap and easy to replace.  [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Unless you plan to travel widely in Europe, you do not need adapters (plural) at all. You will only need this one,

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

which simply screws onto your existing fill point, and actually makes the filling process a lot easier. The filler gun for this dish type adapter just pushes up against it, and when you pull the trigger four little claws come out and grab the rim of the dish. Much easier than the UK version.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (pictured above) is the only one you will need for France, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Poland.

With respect to advice given earlier, none of it is incorrect, but don't be conned into buying a whole set of adapters, when you are likely only ever to need one of them.

Hope this helps.

Let’s put it this way, I’ve a list of questions longer than my holiday shopping list, and that list is very long indeed snigger .
I suspect they don’t know what’s heading their way. broomstick

I’ve had a lot of encouragement on the forum, and also via private messages, so I thought I would update everyone on the 2nd handover.

I had discussed it with the after sales manager, as I was returning it for a faulty gauge repairing under warranty (which has been done thankfully).

We agreed that on my return he would demonstrate the hot water and heating in operation on both gas AND on electric hook up.

He also said he would have the television fitted and tested and working, as it should have been on the initial handover.

When I arrived, he showed me the controls, and the hot water on gas.  BUT he said that he couldn’t have it on hook up as there wasn’t any available, so couldn’t demonstrate it!

I then asked about the television, which wasn’t anywhere in sight.  He asked where it was (so clearly hadn’t tested it).  I asked him to take it out of the box and connect it.  He did.  It didn’t work!  Then one of the mechanics couldn’t get it to work either. So I had to wait well over an hour while they stripped the wiring, changed the booster etc and eventually got it working.  Good job I insisted on seeing it.

I can honestly say that I’m astounded as this poor level of service from such a well known dealer (and a preferred supplier of the Camping and Caravanning Club).  Items not included as agreed as part of the sale.  MOT certificate not supplied 6 weeks after being done. Faulty bulbs not mailed to me as promised.  Faulty gauges. A really poor first handover.  Then jobs not covered as agreed during the second handover.

Plus, on my first trip away this weekend, I’ve discovered that there’s seething up with the aircon (you can’t change modes, it’s just stuck on auto at 20 degrees).  Then I couldn’t fill the LPG, as it took 10 minutes to get 2 litres in! I’m sure I’ve seen a post somewhere about this somewhere, so I’ll have to search it out.

So I love the van, but will never ever use this dealer again.  However, I certainly appreciate the help I’ve had on here; it really is a helpful, friendly and wise forum.

All the best

Oh no. Not Marquis. It saddens me to see that endorsement from C&CC. Obviously no one at the C&CC actual use Marquis.
I think it's probably OK to buy from them, as I found their prices so reasonable, but my van will go to AS service centre for Hab checks etc.

I have had problems with Marquis but in this case they were not the dealers Sally bought from.

Glad you got some small satisfaction from them in the end Sally, but I’d be inclined to write to HQ or higher, setting out how poor the service was. If they don’t know how their branches are underperforming they can’t do anything about it.

One thing not mentioned: when you fill with gas make sure you are wearing a good pair of long gloves. We’ve got leather gardening gloves. The gas comes out very cold and you don’t want any on your hands or arms.

Somewhere, YouTube I think, there is an excellent video showing how to refill. There is also one on the Gaslow site as well, I think.

Enjoy your van and look out for forum member stickers. You’ll always be welcome for a chat etc l’m sure!

Edit to add: can’t say about UK but, in Europe, its often quite difficult to refill your own as a garage attendant pops out, with adapter sometimes, and does it for you. We were told in Italy that “ it is in case the client explodes the service station”. He could not remember that ever happening however but, for a euro or two, its worth letting him do it !

The last thing I want to do is ‘explode the service station’, it’s worth a couple of euros to avoid that.

I’m still considering whether on not to bother writing to them.  I don’t want their incompetence to get in the way of my enjoyment. I love my van, despite them!  But if I ever upgraded, it wouldn’t be through them.

That’s a good tip about the long gloves. The last ones I wore were white silk ones, 3/4 length to over the elbow, worn with a ball gown for a dance. I strongly suspect they are not ideal hugegrins

It's a different one for Spain.

Why not just buy the set - after all it's only £25, hardly being conned after spending tens of thousands on a van!
If you travel to Germany, Belgium, France, etc you might just need them.
