Cayman Tailgate Awning
Hi everyone, does anybody here know if a Outdoor Revolution Cayman Tail awning 2018
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will fit our Topaz HiTop?
I guess the question is does it fit over the tailgate only or does it need the roof and sides of a normal van?
Have asked the retailer who I have ordered it from and they are not sure
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to ASOF. Sorry, I can't help with your query, but I have one of my own !!!
I can see from the photo of you van that you have a step fitted. I have been trying for some time to work out how to fit a retractable step. The main problem being the fuel tank which prevents access to a satisfactory point of fastening. I have also been concerned about the loss of ground clearance. I would be grateful for your views on this. My wife is finding it increasingly difficult to manage the entry and I would really like to solve this problem.

Re: Cayman Tailgate Awning
Hi, I'm sorry I was unable to help. I have no experience of using a tailgate awning. It appears that no one else on the forum has any advice to offer either on this problem.
I would, however, be very grateful for an answer to the queries in my previous post. Your Topaz is the first of any VW T5/T6 I have seen with a step.

The poster has not visited the forum since posting his question. Makes you wonder why some people ask and then never return to see any answers. I know the same question was asked on the FB group.

Keith - have you looked at any of the side bars that have steps built-in? Not as deep as a retractable step, but might be a help?

Mojo, I did look at side bars. I think they were suggested when I first raised this problem about two years ago. Didn't much fancy them! They seemed fine for a relatively young/fit individual but not very reassuring for an 83 year old missus who is not very steady on her feet. The other issue was that they are/were only available for the SWB transporter. The Topaz of course has a LWB undercarriage .
Another point of interest. My wife has a habit of saying she is just 'turned' 38. Are you by any chance just turned 18 ????

Hi Keith
Worth mentioning these steps with handles, although I expect you have considered them.
Lots of different designs to choose from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Dave, thanks for that link. We actually have a very good double step which we use in conjunction with a hand grip on our caravan. At the moment we use a small folding step for the Topaz. It's OK but an electric sliding step is what we aspire to, for stability and ease of use. Thanks. Keith

Roli recently had one, possibly a pair fitted. He may be able to offer some suggestions.KMRTOPAZ wrote:Dave, thanks for that link.
