Extra storage for Symbol
Does anyone have any ideas for some extra storage space in a Symbol or similar van conversion? I don't fancy rooftop as I will be 79 next birthday and my climbing days are coming to an end. I would particularly like somewhere to stow a couple of chairs- 97 cm long when folded so a back box would cover both doors.

Re: Extra storage for Symbol
I bought a big 500 box for mine for times away but to be honest it doesn't get used much except if we are going on a rally or similar when the wheels wont turn for a few days in which case the big chairs and awning go in their plus a few other bits and pieces.
Maybe not the answer you want but for touring we have the chairs that fit in a bag
we got ours from Tesco a few years back now like these

They were two for £10 when we bought them but even a new price two for £12 good value. They really do take up very little room and easily fit under the bench seat. There are loads of other similar one so plenty to choose from but we did find that the Tesco ones were one of the smallest when packed and whilst not as comfy as the big ones good enough for us.

Re: Extra storage for Symbol
When we had a Symphony, we also had bag chairs which travelled on bench seat and transferred to cab when on site. We have a Sussex now but still have bag chairs although now we have Brunner Raptor chairs, more upright and better for outside eating around a table.

Thanks for your reply David. We bought 2 folding chairs from Aldi when we started. They fit inder the bed with the heater. Sides for the awning go in there as well. We have two other chairs, a bit bigger which we find much more comfy but can't think whed to stow them so we dont use them.
Cheers,
Edwin

I guess that I want too much. We manage ok with the bag chairs. Just looking for an easier way to carry more comfy ones but don't fancy the cost of a 1 metre back box plus rack to put it on. Plus a 1 metre box looks awfully big to hang on one door.

Re: Extra storage for Symbol
The Symbol has plenty of odd shaped voids where you could store stuff, eg under the third seat. Also rethink storage, we use a large lidded box that contains boots and shoes which resides outside when we get to site. Never had any footwear pinched yet ! (must be my socks !!) The box sits neatly in the corridor when travelling . Also have two smaller boxes for socks pants shirts etc that both fit into the gap beneath the wardrobe . They are transferred to the reversed passenger seat when we are ready to make up beds. We also bungee and secure two reclining chairs behind passenger seat when travelling and leave outside or under van when on site. Had the chairs a few years too.
Hope this gives you food for thought

Re: Extra storage for Symbol
Thank you. That is really helpfull. We had completely overlooked the space under the wardrobe. Just stuffed the loose cushions in there. We must look out for boxes that fit there. Also the chairs on the back of the passenger seat; will try that. We have been storing the ramps on that ledge for travel but that is a better use.

In our Duetto( very similar to Symbol) we carry two Lafuma chairs stood upright behind the front passenger seat and secured by a small elastic bungee round the head rest and another round the bottom of the seat back. On site, they easily stand upright in footwell when The passenger seat in turned round.

Re: Extra storage for Symbol
We have a 18 year old Symbol. Bought a couple of folding chairs from Aldi 4 years ago. When travelling we stand ours upright behind the Passenger seat and secure them with the use of 2 bungee cords. When on site and not in use we lay them on a weatherproof sheet and slide them under the van.
