Mercedes Sprinter service
Having bought our MH May last year it had a service and mot we have travelled about 1500 miles since then making a total of 15500 miles, the next service will be at 17000 miles (Service A) thats what the computer says, do i service this year or wait a year when total milage will be near what the computer says then i could have service B.
Incidentally the previous owner had it mot and serviced before he sold it then the company i bought it off mot and serviced again.

Hi Chrisk
I have a Merc do about 3000 miles a year and get mine serviced every 2 years and a habitation check every 2 years on the year it is not being serviced it spreads the cost If you are CMC member you can reduced price MOT at ATS
regards
Alan

I tend to follow the computer instruction regarding service interval - I know some people are keen advocates of oil/filter changes every 12 months regardless!chrisk wrote:Having bought our MH May last year it had a service and mot we have travelled about 1500 miles since then making a total of 15500 miles, the next service will be at 17000 miles (Service A) thats what the computer says, do i service this year or wait a year when total milage will be near what the computer says then i could have service B.

On my MB, the dash notification starts the countdown to the next service in miles, but as our mileage is relatively low (when compared to "white van man"), it reverts to "days remaining" as it gets nearer to the next service due date.
As far as I know it works on an algorithm of mileage, time, engine temperatures and driving cycle type (and probable a bit making money for MB) - so it should know what the correct date is for a service.
Generally the A and B services follow each other - with the B been classed as a major service.
I have shifted the MOT dates (just sacrificed a few months of the previous one) to a more convenient date which coincides with the winter season.

Re: Mercedes Sprinter service
I originally stuck with the van telling when it needed a service and taking it to a Mercedes main commercial workshop. Sitting beside a German motorway with failed brakes at 5 years old it was obvious as the ADAC engineer started work that the back wheels had never been off and the brakes never properly inspected or cleaned - essential as the handbrake operates in a drum at the centre of the disc.
I now take to the chap round the corner who has done my cars for years just before the MOT. He changes the oil and oil filter, has the wheels off and replaces other filters (only those filters that need replacing following Mercedes guidelines.
I had high expectations of the Mercedes maintenance regime and was let down badly. I also found later that given an MOT advisory for poor brake balance at the rear, they had declared the front discs responsible and changed them!!

Hi
If I could find a non franchise MB workshop I would go there but the only commercial workshop near me wanted to charge more than MB and not use genuine parts
regards

Re: Mercedes Sprinter service
Can only endorse Peter's comments. Having run MB cars for 25 years I have always found the main dealer servicing to be awful. Before I retired I had several main dealerships (several brands) as clients and the things I saw behind the scenes only convinced me never to go near them for maintenance. I use an independent MB specialist just outside Maidstone who is brilliant but perhaps they might be a wee bit too far away to be of use to Alan.

Rather like motorhome dealers then, same franchise different results depending on the branch. I have nothing but praise for MB in Truro who service my car and their light commercial side who look after the van. On the other hand I would certainly avoid the MB main commercial branch just outside the city having been let down by them in the past.

Re: Mercedes Sprinter service
Yes As per groundhog, a large number of main dealers are poor. Its the same with Auto-sleeper dealers.
You need to check.

Re: Mercedes Sprinter service
Hi Chris,
They have moved premises since last year - (knew he was wanting to) now at Larkfield. see http://www.stevensonsmercedeskent.co.uk/
Boss is Steve Garlick who is a gem and so well qualified and experienced it makes the mind boggle. Highly recommended. When he serviced our car he loaned us a car for the day - 2011 C220 with close on 200K on the clock - looked and drove like a new car. Good luck.

I can't imagine a manufacturer like MB tolerating substandard dealers and workshops. Did you contact MB direct to complain?

I have spoken to the MB Specialist Fleet Sales Manager who supplies the supermarkets and ambulance services, etc as well as AS and made my views of MB aftersales service very clear but at the end of the day, he is only a cog in the wheel.

I see no image, just a little black square with a St Andrews cross in it. I was going to post a screen clip to show you but the facility seems to have disappeared. I'll reboot pc and see what happens.
