courtesy lights on a symbol
I see I have courtesy light switches on both rear & side doors of our 07 symbol, Should there be some form of lighting in the rear when we open these doors,, The cab light lights up when the doors are open to the cab, but nothing in the rear,,
Does any know please
Thanks

Are you sure they are not alarm switches?

Re: courtesy lights on a symbol
As the symbol is built on a van conversion then the switches would probably have fed at least one courtesy light in the rear of the van. These were probably removed during conversion and the wires taped up . As Paul says the switches may now supply a signal for an alarm system if fitted.

The wiring is still there behind the high brake light, I have wired into these and put one of these

over the control panel.
I also added a second one of these by piggy backing off the sliding door light and mounted it high up on the door pillar as it gives a much better light inside the van.
Oh I did learn via experience not to use LEDs in these positions as because of the diming effect of the lights it simply upsets the system and the lights actually don't go fully out.

Mine do the same (though in my case they are dim enough that it doesn't worry me).
I believe you can overcome this by adding a 1kohm 1/4W resistor in parallel with one of the LEDs - you may also find that a so-called Canbus-error-free LED has the same effect, but I confess I have not tried that.

Hi, Please can you tell me how to get into the courtesy light on the step to change the bulb. I have tried but am concerned that I might break something. ( ps I hadn't noticed any dimming before the bulb gave up)Heanorboy wrote:The wiring is still there behind the high brake light, I have wired into these and put one of these

The whole light comes out if you gently prise from the side

Thanks Heanorboy, but is that the grey plastic surround or the inner clear lens. both seem to be quite firmly in place.Heanorboy wrote:The whole light comes out if you gently prise from the side

I thought that the whole grey plastic bit just prised out on mine but due to on going issues I dont have my van at present to check but I am sure that someone with a Boxer van conversion will be along to help you out.
