A very good question that nobody seems to answer. When The VB specialist could not replace the unit he offered to replace the Alko units with good old fashioned bump stops but I hadn't got the bottle or knowledge to go ahead with them. I would love someone to answer this.

When I up rated our fairford from 3500kgs to 3900kgs I was told no requirement for air assistance unless I wanted to go up to 4500kgs, and I would need to provide proof of figment. So I believe they are not needed. But that’s just my opinion.
