Open all year under £10 sites
A new Facebook group named as above has been started. It's been going for 4 days and already has 4000 members. It's still in its infancy but it's shows how many people want a simple no frills site. You can download a list which is updated daily as members add sites.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
Thanks Paul, but I don't do Facebook.
It seems a pity to me that those of us who don't are often totally excluded, and can take no part in whatever it is unless they join FB. The contact details shown on TV are often restricted to Facebook and Twitter users!!
It's almost as though we are utterly insignificant if we are not on Facebook.
Have to say, I'm quite content to remain a "nobody"!

Sightly off topic
Yes I'm like you, a non-facebook user.
I've noticed that more and more companies, instead of keeping their company website updated, refer you to their facebook page.
This is a pity 'cosI don't know how to drive facebook

If it filled a gap in the wide range of already available communications media (for want of a better description) then I might perceive a personal need to be involved. It doesn't though!! With the advent of almost universal smart phone ownership, the likes of FB and Twitter were created very largely because they could be!!
Just because technology means it can be done, is not sufficient reason for doing it!!

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
I don't do a great deal on Facebook , mainly to see what my son is up to (he is a promoter and booking agent - he put the Wurzels on in Leamington Spa last week, said they were great and real fun- and does a lot of his promotion work on there) but I found an Autosleeper Owners group on there and have pointed a lot of their members to this forum. They have about 300 members. I found out about the £10 sites group through a couple of other forums - wild camping and motorhomeowners.

I don't particularly want to Dave, Some info, like the sites Paul mentions is only available if you are a FB user. Forums are dying because people use FB instead, Websites which say 'for more details and prices - see our Facebook page'Gromit wrote:Me neither Frank, and why would we want to??
Anyway - we're hijacking Pauls thread - back to the subject.

Will look at that Paul.
Yes, I admit it (like the AA this...), I'm a FB user..
Mainly because half my family are on the other side of the world in New Zealand, and the other half are 200 miles away in Essex. It's brilliant to see what the grandkids have been up to during the week and keep with their news, it's the next best thing to being there. Unlike forums, videos and photos are a doddle to put up. I can see why FB is killing off forums. The Moto Guzzi Club forum is almost deserted since several Guzzi FB groups have started up.
I have no idea what Twitter or Instagram are though.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
Nothing really wrong with Facebook, it's just another form of forum (like this is).
Get to grips with your privacy settings and no-one knows about you, there are some excellent groups available, for practically anything.
It's not all about photos of your cat or breakfast, those who poo poo it have either never used it, or didn't sort out their settings.
I'm the same as bikeralw, have family all over the world (sort of), and it's a great way to keep in touch in an informal manner.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
Its a generational thing really, forums are dying because they are often slow to answer while facebook is often instant. But it will like Forums will be old hat soon as new applications become more popular with younger people. The under a tenner site is very popular and I am a member of it. With the Benimar forum it had died as unlike this one no one bothered to answer anyone, before Marquis started to do Benimar in the UK again the forum was not very big. So I started a facebook group and it now has 160 members and is still growing. If its forum had been as lively as the Autosleepers one I would not have started it. It is not as good as a forum in some ways as you do not get the separate headings for threads. But it is doing well and a lot more responsive than the old Benimar Forum. At least people answer Benimar questions and post pictures.

My wife is on FB.....I ain't allowed, as she tells me that I might start saying what I really think. And that wouldn't do, as I would cause too much conflict.
Ah well ! I've got too much else to do anyway...

Good group, easy to find sites on a spreadsheet, not only sites under £10 but free ones as well.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
I've just joined the group. Has anyone looked at the list of members? It says 6600 members but there seems to be only about a dozen members that just get repeated over and over and all begin with A - lots of Adams and Adeles. Does anyone agree it's a bit strange? I haven't gone deeper into the group because I'm a little uncomfortable about it.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
I just looked at the members list and can't see anything strange, random names in no particular order, certainly not alfabetically. I just hope that eventually they can put sites into county or at least regional groups. Obviously the admins do it in their free time and probably never imagined it would be so popular.

I can't even see the list of sites. I might have a look when I'm on the computer (as opposed to the iPad), things are sometimes different on there.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
To see list, click on 'i' info in the group heading, then look down for 'files' and download. It may be a problem on iPads as a lot of members seem to have problems. Somewhere amongst the posts admin put on instructions for iPads but the group posts are getting clogged up with posts saying 'thanks for the add'.
They update the database every few days so I download the latest and bin the previous one.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
I've just joined that group and will download the site list soon (now I am back on the PC).
Reading these stories of people being banned by their other half from FB reminds me of my partner's first experience.
I had been on FB for quite a while but Heather was reluctant to join. Then her son went traveling and FB seemed the logical place to follow his adventures. Unfortunately he refused to "friend" her! That didn't really matter as I was already a friend of his so he could be followed anyway.

Re: Open all year under £10 sites
I joined that group and downloaded the 'database'. To be honest, its something of a mish-mash, Some are doubled up, some are just laybys and the 'database' is totally disorganised.
I sorted my copy out into a usable format and would have uploaded it but the group admins are hostile to any advice about organising the data better. I've left the group now, as there is nothing there which cannot be accessed better on searchforsites.co.uk

I didn't reorganise their "database" but was considering it when I spotted their hostility.
