Lost key for Water Filler Cap
Key lost, water filler cap locked. Replacement cap is about £15 on Ebay.
Do I need to get a locksmith out to unlock the existing cap (£50) or can I force the lock with a screwdriver without messing up the inlet surround?
Changing the surround would mean removing the oven and cooker.......!

Re: Lost key for Water Filler Cap
I would be willing to bet (at least a shilling! ) that there are not very many key combinations in use, and that someone else's key would open your cap - specially as it sounds like it's fairly old and worn.
A couple of years ago I was able to let someone into his van via the habitation door using my key. My van was a Nuevo and his was a Broadway - both of them less than three years old!!! (Worrying, or what!!!! )
Before taking the screwdriver to it I would try as many keys as you can. It's worth trying any that look similar if they slide easily into the lock. It's a very cheap lock so you don't need the skills of a famous safe cracker!

I once lost the key for a motorbike top box, I simply drilled out the barrel. I had to take care as I was fitting a new barrel, but you won't have to worry about damaging the cap if you're replacing it.
