Auto Sleeper Symbol
Hi
I am considering buying a new AS Symbol (2011) my concerns are with the single glazing (non opening) windows causing condensation problems, not only when cooking but also with the colder weather. Any feedback negative or positive about this or any other issues relating to a new Symbol would be most appreciated.
Regards

Hi Batch
We have a few members with the newer Symbols who should be able to comment and others with Kemerton & Warwick Duo models which as far as I'm aware share the same windows that you refer to, first time it's been mentioned on the forum that I'm aware of so don't think it's too much of a problem but hopefully we will hear from others on the subject.

Re: Auto Sleeper Symbol
Hi batch,
We owned an Orian Pavo (Symbol copy) from 2008 until recently when we exchanged for a 2011 Symbol.
At the outset I shared your concerns about the single glazing but we have been pleasantly surprised how effective these windows can be. We use our van in all seasons and despite cooking and heating the van in cold weather we have not had any real issues. We do however close the blinds as soon as the sun sets to provide better insulation.
The dark windows are not to everyone's taste but we like them because they filter strong sunlight and provide extra privacy. The large rooflight more than compensates for the lower level of light through the side windows.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to ask.

Hi Batch
We have never experienced any condensation build up with the athermic glass used. The only likely place would be on the front windscreen which is not athermic and using an external silverscreen would stop that.
The tinting is really good as it provides excellent privacy without darkening the interior too much and the large overhead Heki screen helps to lighten the interior.

Re: Auto Sleeper Symbol
We have the Symbol with tinted windows and they really are fine.
I had the same worries as you before buying (having read the MMM test drive report which SUGGESTED that the windows MIGHT be problematic in the early hours of the morning!) I checked with an owner who said he hadn't experienced any problems.
This does raise the question of magazine reviews- this same reservation about the single glazed windows again reared its head in a test drive report last year--again, if you read it carefully, the tester hadn't actually experienced a problem but thought that there might be!

Hi Merv
Ta very much for your reply, I fully agree that magazine reviews have to be taken with a pinch of salt, this is where forums like this are really useful, there is nothing like talking to the actual owners. The response that I got did make a difference, we were uncertain at the time whether to go for Autocruise or Autosleeper so we decided, partly due to this forum and to a certain deghree because we did'nt want to have to deal with Swift again ( once was enough ) to buy a AS Kemerton, deposit just paid, and are hoping to collect the van at the end of March.

Hi Bob
In a word NO but partly due to this forum we did decide to buy a AS Kemerton as opposed to an Autocruise something or other, deposit paid and hopefully we should collect the van at the end of March.

P.S Nothing wrong with being nosey, it just means that you are showing an interest.

Hi batch,
The Kemerton is a lovely vehicle and I was very tempted when I first looked at it. Unfortunately we both drive our van and I could not persuade Mrs orian to have a long wheel based vehicle. That said, I am very pleased with our Symbol which has power, economy, comfort and can go anywhere. Enjoy your Kemerton.
