Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
I need to replace the camera on the back of the Symbol. It has no makers name or model number on the outside. Can anyone tell me the makers name and or where I can get one?

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
The Symbol was purchased secondhand from a local dealer. From the first day the reversing system was intermittent. Of course every time it went back it worked! Eventually they agreed to change the camera, stripped out the necessary panels and found that the replacement was not compatible with the monitor. Stale mate. A week later nothing was being done. Spoke to the head poncho and they agreed to fit a complete system. Now have a a camera in the top back light and a neat 3.5 inch monitor mounted neatly in the top offside corner of the dash board. Better system all round.
If anyone has a use for a Veba 7" monitor that clips over the mirror it is available FOC.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
I am following this with interest as we do not have either a reversing camera or parking/reversing sensors. At times I will be going off on my own when Mr L is working weekends and I do not feel confident manoeuvring without a passenger set of eyes...

Lancky I have the twin rear cameras with a 7" monitor that fits over my rear view mirror, I certainly wouldn`t be without it, I had bleepers on my Topaz and they were good, I prefer cameras in the first instant buy ideally both would be great together.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
Just got a 2013 Dorset with reversing camera and had sounders fitted last week. I found I was looking at the rear view more than the side mirrors when reversing. And the view was strange, I found. It looked as if you could see several feet back from the rear but in reality the camera is looking almost straight down. Anything at the back has to be almost touching the bumper before I can see it but the beepers are solid at about 2 feet. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
Bertb, I totally agree with your post, I have fitted rear sensors on our Warwick due to the way the camera gives a strange image.
We have sensors on our cars and had them on the T5 Topaz, never had a bump when reversing!
My friend used to run a car body shop and said they were always pleased to see someone with a rear camera, as they always had dings to the front wings as they were always looking in the rear mirror, not the front end!

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
Rear camera is an useful addition, but has severe limitations. Ours is useless in rain - a drop always seems to hang on the lens, grossly distorting the image such that it's of no use; the warnings about not using wing mirrors are important, too.
They are useful if you need to reverse a little in traffic and you don't have a passenger whom you can ask to check if there's a vehicle immediately behind you: I once started to reverse a motorhome which didn't have a camera - nothing visible behind me in wing mirrors - loud tooting from small car which was tucked up on my tail. Luckily he tooted as soon as my reversing lights came on, before I moved.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
reading this I am so glad I have asked for buzzers to be fitted in addition to the cameras.
My daughter in law has them both on her car and recommended that I don't just rely on the camera.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
I have the twin cameras, one for going forward can see the idiots behind who seem to like my bumper, and I switch manually to the other when reversing, I prefer it set up that way rather than automatically coming on when reverse is selected. camera angles can be altered if not to suit. takes a bit of getting use to, best thing I have bought for me.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
Camera's are a great addition but should be used as an additional tool, not a replacement.
As above, using them as an extra pair of eyes but also checking sides, mirrors and what the front ends doing when turning is still just as important.
I have a set of reversing sensor buzzers actually, I might put those on as well as they are good when the camera's foggy/wet.

Re: Reversing camera 2013 Symbol
Sensors have an advantage in that your are using sound as well as vision. Two senses instead of one. The Symbol came with a camera and a monitor that clipped over the mirror. The camera gave an intermittent signal and the monitor made a naff rear view mirror. Eventually the dealer replaced the top rear light with a unit with a built in camera and a neat 3.5" inch monitor mounted on the dash board. The rear view mirror now works as it should but provided a very restricted view of the road behind.
Fitting an 8x10" fresnel lens gives a wider view of the road behind. As it is a fish eye lens the view is distorted but one soon gets used to it. It is very useful to judge when to pull in front of a vehicle you have just over taken.
The lens is available for around £10 so it is not a disaster if you can't get on with it.
To sum up, if starting from scratch my preference would be sensors and a fresnel lens
