T4 Trooper - little niggles
Having now lived with my Trooper for a few months I think I'm falling in love. However, there are a few little things that are annoying me and I wondered if anyone else has found the same or has any solutions.
The parcel shelf seems to be about an inch too short and so balances very precariously, often falling down unless I've filled the space underneath well.
The driver's door and sliding door seem to bounce back as I close them so they aren't shutting properly.
Finally, there are "eyes" (as in hooks and eyes) screwed in the top of the walls in each corner, and two on the front of the bed board - what are they for?

The 'eyes' may have been added for a washing line using curtain wire perhaps?

Try opening the drivers door window a wee bit and then close the door, the VW vehicles tend to be air tight, my T5 van I had some years ago was just the same

Have you tried shutting the sliding door more slowly,? I found when I had one that worked, too aggressive with it and it did bounce back. just a thought.

Re: T4 Trooper - little niggles
Thanks for replies.
The eyes wouldn't work for a washing line, I'd thought of that but it would be too close to other things.
I think the "airtight" thing could be the problem with the doors, will try opening a window, thanks. Closing it more slowly doesn't help at all I'm afraid, have tried that.

...could the "eyes" be for locating and holding a piece of material as a "headlining" to hide the folded roof sections ?
I've sometimes considered doing it on mine.

I suppose they could be - but I wouldn't be able to stand up then so it would be a nuisance. :-D

Re: T4 Trooper - little niggles
Ours is 2005/2006 so T5 based, but it's pretty much exactly the same roof. One thing that surprised us was that the roof needed significant adjustment at one of the front catches, as it bounced up and down while going along when we got it. There didn't seem any evidence that the adjustment had slipped, so it looks as though it must have been like it from the factory!
The other thing that irritates us is the ridiculous ventilation slot - which if you are lucky yours won't have. It's hard to see it as anything other than a lazy half-hearted solution by A/S to (then) new legislation on fixed vents, given that they made no attempt whatsoever to fit any form of insect screen to the opening.
But other than that gripe, it's a great roof. Shame they don't use it any more.

Re: T4 Trooper - little niggles
I'm used to the roof - I've had 2 x Autosleeper Friskies (1988 & 1990 Transit Based) in the past which have the same roof. The only difference is that this has two rubber retainers outside at the front which I have to remember to take off and put back on again.
Doesn't need ventilation holes though - all 3 have had plenty of ventilation in gaps between the panels when roof is up!

We're used to the roof too - having had one on a Commer (!) and also one on a Frisky (before they were actually called Friskies). But none of ours have had rubber retainers - I wonder if these were retrofitted to yours?
Agreed - the ventilation is more than adequate without the ridiculous gaping slot. As I've said many times before - midges don't have any trouble finding their way in without adding any extra openings...

...to fill the "ventilation" slot, I use a piece of grey pipe lagging (75 pence), just trim the ends at an angle....it's just the right diameter to fit snugly.

That's exactly what I had in mind (I even have a spare piece waiting to be trimmed) - good to hear it will solve the problem.
