Electric Step on Nuevo EK 2012
Hello all. I have a very annoying problem with the electric step on my Nuevo EK 2012. It always opens, but closing it is very intermittent. It always used to retract when starting the engine (with the buzzer sounding) but now I have to resort to closing it by hand. Very occasionally it will close with the key fob when I press "lock". The buzzer doesn't sound when I start the engine now. Has anyone out there had a similar problem? If so I would appreciate a diagnosis and cure!
Kind regards to all the members.

That's a new one on me. I'm certain that should not happen as it is potentially very dangerous. You lock the van with the fob at night and the steps retracts. When you open up in the morning you fall flat on your face as there's no step there!!Chrisjohn wrote:Very occasionally it will close with the key fob when I press "lock".
I think you have a problem with the electrical wiring, and it doesn't sound straightforward. I'd suggest a return to your dealer, or a short holiday near Willersey since I think your van will still be under warranty.
Good luck

There is a switch on the step mechanism (where depends on make of step) that is pushed in when the step is fully retracted. That is probably stuck in with road muck. If you find it, clean it then a good dose of WD40 all should be well.

Why would it occasionally close with the key fob Peter?
That's what puzzles me - and would be a serious concern if it were my van.

There are two completely separate circuits that operate the step motor, one circuit is in place with the engine running and the other (key fob/press button) when its not. You can bet the whole step mechanics are covered in sticky road muck.Gromit wrote:Why would it occasionally close with the key fob Peter?

I've also had the problem in reverse - the step is (apparently) closed but the buzzer stays on. I drove about 60 miles with that buzzer driving me mad and with frequent stops to try a new theory. In the end I pulled into a layby and gave the step an almighty kick - that stopped in. The problem was road muck stopping the step closing the last couple of millimeters to operate the switch.

Thanks Peter.
In this age of increasingly complex technology, I'm relieved to see that the "Use a bigger hammer" principle still applies!!

There are 3 jumper pin pairs in the EM50 unit which if jumpers are fitted control the Awning Light on when unlock, the step out when unlock and the step in when lock. I use the first two only.

I had the same problem on mine. As Peter says it is the switch that sticks. Luckily it happened to me just before a visit to Willersey and they cleaned the switch and lubricsted it with a white grease. No problem since!

Hello Ron, thanks for this. Do you know if the switch is easily replaceable? I could order one from Autosleepers and hopefully do the job myself. I will try the WD40 route first of course.
Thanks and best wishes.

The step on ours started doing all strange things until the EM50 was replaced - fortunately under warranty.

Re: Electric Step on Nuevo EK 2012
Hello all, sorry to resurrect this problem, but I have just received a new microswitch from Autosleepers, which is obviously a modified version of the one I have. The microswitch on the van has 2 terminals with wires attached on it, but this new one has only one brown wire attached, the rest is sealed (which presumably will cure the problem with damp getting in) my problem is not knowing where to attach the other wire. Has anybody out there faced this problem? Thanks, Chris.
