Van now here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] will call in 2 weeks , I had a nice chat with Ian while he drove me back to the train station . Left him a camera so will be posting pictures when we get the van back. He mentioned replacing the wings was a good idea rather than just the arches. what have others done about the stripes?

Jenny&Peter......as far as i know the green is spray painted and then maroon/gold pinstriping to upper and lower with white in the middle. I don't think AS stock it any longer but it's worth giving them a call (ask for Alan). If they don't, then Ian will be able to get you a close match.

Update, van will be another 10 days, Ian has been taking pictures so will post soon on how things were done .The inner wings needed fabricating and the front wings have been spliced with the new panels to keep the existing coach-lines . Will lose the ones on the rear doors though but will decide if that looks odd later . Front doors are being done today.

Thanks for keeping us updated and we are looking forward to viewing!! Ian took the bottom striping off my rear doors and i think it looks better, not to mention any rusting there is much easier to spot without decals when it starts.
I spoke to Ian last week and he asked me to phone him next week when he can give me a clear date on taking my van in. Simple job compared to yours.....but he has to remove the guttering to do the paint job. I'll leave him a camera like you have as i want to see what's behind this gutter trim!

Van almost done, we have missed it. Ian has managed to keep all the stripes, polished the paintwork and even replaced the number plates.

Re: duetto wheel arch replacement
Good to see your 'work in progress' pics!! The bottom pic of new metal let into door, that's the exact same job Ian did on my van three years ago....where they split just before the quarter light. Common Transit rust spot! It's impossible to see where Ian blended the paint in and yours will look the same when finished.
I imagine you are looking forward to picking it up......it will certainly turn a few heads!!
My van is next in the queue now and am due to phone him on Wednesday to sort a date to have my job done. Looking forward to seeing the final finish!

Congratulations. It is great to see the van looking so good and it just shows what can be done.

I don't wish to teach you to suck-eggs, but a tip from someone who's had several Transits, (vans, not MHs)
Nicely painted repair sections will almost always still be bare-metal on the inside, & since rust started there in the first place, it will be starting again immediately.
Any & all panels I replaced in the past were primed & then really well plastered with anti-rust, in my case I spray Waxoyl.
The front doors, I removed the inner liner, cobbled up a paintbrush on a 'stick' & hand-painted the primer, awkward & messy, but if NOT done, it will soon be back.
Looks really nice by the way.

Looks a nice job, as Modelman says rust treatment from the inside is advised.

That's fine then, just about anything will do on bare metal, did they do under the door-
patches??

Given it a coat of autoglym SRP, wax next but will wait until weather is a bit better, thinking about getting new bumpers front and back as they are not expensive . Rubbers need retreating with gumipledge.

Great pics Jenny & Peter and now looks like a new van. The registration plate would put most new vans to shame though as they won't look as good as yours in ten years never mind twenty!
Ian is having to collect my van as i broke my leg last Sunday and can't drive for 2 months.

Glad you are pleased with the end result. I just noticed you mentioned about replacing the bumpers? Whats wrong with 'em....they look minters! If those were the same model as mine i'd buy 'em off you!
My bumpers are well faded from the sun but completely intact (no scratches or anything) so am going to ask Ian what he uses to colour restore plastic bumpers when he collects my van. I've used AutoGlym Plastic bumper restorer which looks great but only lasts a few days. That Gummiphlege stuff is good for the window rubber seals and, typically German, does a damn good job. Not cheap though!

Re: duetto wheel arch replacement
Not a Duetto obviously, but we took our 2005 Exec to meet Ian Taylor yesterday.
It requires some work to the front wheel arch linings and to a couple of chassis rails where water has got behind the plastic inspection plates.
We're 'booked' for sometime in April, as Ian is very busy.
I was impressed with his approach, to suggest the repairs first and then a good wire brush scrubbing underneath followed by a good dose of Waxoyl.
His estimate for the cost was a nice surprise too.

Looks a nice job. This about the same as we had done but we had to add to this the windscreen scuttle ,door pillar and side panel . I would have kept ours but I couldn't face finding any more rust. Hopefully being 10 years younger this Rienza will let me off rust for a while.

You won't be disappointed Chris. Yes Ian is very professional in his approach to work. He's done this all his life after all! My van is due in next so you will have to get in the queue! It's not a big job though so Ian will sort yours. As he has seen your van physically, his estimate will be fixed.....that's what you will pay. Only time it would increase is if you decided to have something else done you forgot about. He's a very fair and honest guy to deal with.
