Water leak from base of tap
Has anyone advice to impart on removing and replacing O rings at the base of a Topaz mixer tap with a swivel spout. The upper cartridge is sound, but a leak appears at the bottom of the swivel spout. Please be kind and tell me I can do it without removing the fridge!!

Hi, did you find a way of resolving this? I have the same problem but can't find how I remove or dismantle the tap to find how to fix it.

Re: Water leak from base of tap
Hello Hiro. Yes I finally purchased a new tap (£35) and replaced it.
If the tap drips from the spout it's easy to remove the upper section and replace the cassette which controls flow and temperature.
If it leaks at the base you will need to remove the tap completely to access the rubber ring washers. If you look closely you will see that there is a separate ring about 5mm or so thick at the base of the tap. This ring unscrews to release the lower body containing the washer rings.
First remove the upper fridge vent (outside) and (try to) release the two water supply pipes which are connected with push fit connectors about ten inches from the tap. I failed and finally cut both pipes in a clear position in the centre of the fridge vent opening.
Back inside. Remove the cutlery tray below and to the right of the sink. You will see (torch!) a single bolt behind the water pipes that hold the tap in place. Remove the nut to release the tap which will now wriggle out complete with about six inches of the pipes previously cut. Easier said than done! I used a small rachet spanner in this very confined space to release the tap.
I decided that after 10 years use the tap owed me nothing and opted for complete replacement
I also purchased a metre of 12mm pipe and two 12mm straight push connectors. I added eight inches of new pipe to each of the new "tap tails" to bring them to the cut position and then joined the two pipes with the connectors.
Wriggle the pipes back below and position the tap but don't bolt the tap in place until you have reconnected pipes and tested for leaks.
A couple of photographs would probably help which I could send to you via e'mail.
Quote from nearest service agent £200 plus vat. DIY £35 plus about £8 for the pipe etc.

Andy
It occurred to me that to replace the tap or to obtain parts you need to know that it is a "Dimatec mixer tap (motorhome)" available from Magnum Motorhomes on ebay.

Re: Water leak from base of tap
Thanks Keith. I managed to get the nut undone fairly easily, but struggled to remove the tap. I have a plate in my wrist from a motorcycle injury which oddly restricts movement of my fingers when my hand is twisted, so couldn't get the pipes through the hole, even after cutting them downstream. In the end I removed the sink, only held with 4 screws, which allows easy access.
I've ordered a new tap too, hard to see where the crusted up old one is leaking from and the price is good. I'm also going to take the opportunity to fit an inline water filter cartridge on the cold feed as there is plenty of space behind that top vent grille.
One thing that struck me. The bathroom tap is the same type and rear access to it is non-existant without removing the whole plastic panel around the sink, which I know from past experience feeding a cable for a rear view camera is an absolute nightmare! I just hope it doesn't start leaking.
Cheers

Re: Water leak from base of tap
Pleased to help Andy. It sounds as though I did a bit more struggling than was necessary, for the sake of four screws !
Shower tap; if you stand at the back of the van with the rear hatch raised you will see a vertical trim panel to the left of the opening. About six screws will give you access to the rear of the basin/loo etc. I think it also exposes the rear of the shower tap and supply pipes.
It's about twelve months since I was in there running cabling for fitting an electric motor to the awning, so I am not absolutely sure !!
Cheers
