Hook up
When at home i only put my van on charge about 2hrs per fortnight(it has a solar panel)
Is that ok or should i keep it on EHU all the time.

Re: Hook up
Since I've had solar fitted, I never put mine on EHU, no need if your solar charges both batteries (does yours?).

Re: Hook up
You need either a dual-regulator or a battery-master (other makes are available) to divert charge to starter battery once leisure battery is full charged. Any indication on your solar regulator?

Re: Hook up
If the solar panel is wired via a Sargent 325 (it wont be a later unit on your van) then both batteries are charged by it. If it has an independent regulator and no battery master then only the leisure battery is charged.
If using a hookup to charge the vehicle battery, 2- 4hrs a fortnight is perfect. If you leave it on all the time the battery will over a period of a couple of months lose electrolyte and cause damage the plates.

Re: Hook up
Hi there,
On "Petal":
o EHU doesn't charge the engine battery.
o The leisure battery doesn't need charging when parked up because nothing is switched on and using power.
For the engine battery I just plug in one of these dashboard solar chargers ....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
.... and it keeps the engine battery charged.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
