Removing bed on Duetto
Hello,all
Further to previous post. Still struggling with trying to get fittings out of Duetto. Can anyone tell us how to get the bed out? It seems the fittings are so well put in by AS that they're really difficult to get out.! Norman's even contemplating welding it himself (without taking the stuff out!) and having someone at the ready with the fire extinguisher! HELP!

Re: Removing bed on Duetto
Hi there,
I have answered on the basis that I don't know the answer (sorry) ....
.... but you don't say what year of Duetto you have.
I suggest that you let us know the year and base vehicle and then someone else might know the answer.
With regard to welding and fire extinguishers my advice is "Be patient and someone will come along with the answer soon."
Best regards,

Re: Removing bed on Duetto
Thanks, Dutto, for your reply. It's a Transit - of course!!! 1994.
Anyhow, Norman's got it up on ramps, and is making his way through the rust and rot! It just got too daunting trying to figure how to remove the fixtures. Some of the bolts were going to necessitate taking the water tanks off. He's got plenty of buckets of water at the ready, and is being ultra careful in not overheating in one place. The trouble with these jobs, is that when you grind the metal for one bit of weld, the hole gets that much bigger!
Hopefully he'll get it done without incinerating the poor old van!
Regards

Re: Removing bed on Duetto
Hi there,
I feel quite ashamed that no-one has responded to this Post with the definitive answer so here goes ....
I have a '98 model and know that the bed can be removed fairly painlessly 'cos they did it at AS when the underneath of mine collapsed. (I promise I will go on a diet tomorrow!!)
I think (but I'm not absolutely certain) that pulling the bed all the way out and then lifting the back (or maybe the front) of it is the secret to success ...
.... but I may be wrong so please don't let anyone incur a hernia trying in vain.
On the subject of Duettos of this era, "Transit = Rust" so all we mortals can do is to try and keep on top of it ....
.... and thank The Lord for the invention of TIG welders!
Best regards,
PS

Thanks, Ian (?)
We're using MIG, 'cos I think that TIG is a hotter weld.
Also finding that someone previously has been handy with the filler - probably because of the difficulty with welding! Slowly getting there. And Norman had decided that he's now too old to be under vehicles welding...........................................................

Hi there,
Back in the 60's I put a Triumph Herald up for sale and a rather optimistic young man turned up with a magnet to check where the bonnet had been touched up with filler! (As per the instructions from the AA and other August bodies!
He gave up trying to get it to attach itself to anything much further than a couple of inches from the latches that held the bonnet down ...
.... and bought it anyway!
Keep at it, it still ticks all the boxes!
