1984 Trafic front seats
Hi all,
The wagon is almost up and running at last. Now for the interior which is my job being in the upholstery/soft furnishings business. New seat/bed cushions I can make. I can re-cover cab seats and have done for customers in the past but these have absolutley had it. The foam is hard and crumbly and moulded cold-cure foams are not exactly a standard item.
So we are looking for secondhand replacement seats, colour immaterial, which fold back flat to form the foot end of the bed.
Would modern trafic seats fit on the original runners or do we need to go right back to the van floor and start again?
What other vehicle seats would fit?
Removeable headrests would be good too.
All info greatly appreciated!

Not sure what other seats would work but if you need fully reclining, flat seats to make up the beds, then maybe try a breakers yard. there are a few breaking motorhomes on Ebay which may be worth following up such as this ...

or how about these if the headrests can be removed

We'll call in at any scrappers we pass just in case but probably rebuild the seats with Flame Retardant upholstery foam in the end - probably 50 density, firm. I found a couple of Youtube videos but they rely on prefabricated coir pads. Basically I will dismantle a seat and back, cut foam to fit (using an electric breadknife) and make an exact copy of the covers. I have hogring pliers etc as part of my trade toolkit. You have probably realised by now that my trade is reupholstery/cushion making/loosecovers. I will post step-by-step photos once I've done it - it may be a while though!

I believe some Vauxhall car parts are interchangable with Trafics. Our first Trafic had bucket seats in it (very hard to make a flat bed and required v-shaped cushions to fill in the gap) which came out of some sort of car.

Hi, we haven't joined RTMR - yet - but it is looking more and more likely. Thanks for your suggestions. We could install shaped seats and I could make up infills if necessary but prefer not to.

The decision has finally been made - I'll recondition the old seats - cheaper and I can do it myself. I'll post pics when I'm doing it.
Thanks everyone for advice.

Think the seats will have to be put on hold...just have to add extra cushions to sit on for now!eddioke wrote:DoraExplora wrote:Hello, Just wondering what you decided to do as we have a similar issue with our front seats.loosecoverqueen wrote:Thanks for the links. Some possibilities there.

Re: 1984 Trafic front seats
Hi all,
the following may be useful -
Take a look at ebay completed listing 2013 2316 9031.
After-market slip-over-the-back headrests for 60's\70's Fords. Not cheap as they are almost as rare as rocking horse droppings and a bit tatty but I will be re-covering them to match whatever I put on our seats.
The altenative would have been to get headrest fittings welded into the old frames. These seem to be just the thing especially since we are not tall people and normal headrests are always too high for us.
