location of relays and fuses
Hi
Can someone tell me where the relays/fuses are in my 1996 Duetto please.
I am aware of the fuse box in the cab on the drivers right but it is the Relays and Fuses that connect the 12v system to the habitation area I am wanting to locate.
The leisure battery (which is not all that old) is flat so I am assuming that the relay/fuse that connects it to the vehicles charging system is at fault.
The hand book states that they are in the engine compartment but the only relay I can find is a Bosch 0332 002 156 which Bosch describe as part of the engine(Glow plugs).
Thanks in anticipation
Fred

Does a 1996 Transit diesel have glow plugs? My 1999 Mk5 didn't.
The main problem in locating these is that A-S had a habit of changing where they put them. The most common location on a Transit of that age is close to the vehicle battery - sometime the fuse is actually partially hidden behind the battery itself. I think on some models the split charge relay and fiuse is located in a (Ford installed) plastic box in that area - but that may only be in later years when Ford included a box to serve auxiliary equipment (i.e. fuses and relays for equipment added later).

Hi
There tend to be quite a few differences even in vans of a similar age but if yours if the same as my 1997 version :
The drivers side fuse box (the add on under the bonnet) contains the habitation and fridge relays with associated fuses. The split charge relay is located on the bulkhead directly behind the vehicle battery and is energized from the alternator.
There are no fuses fitted in the split charge relay lines.
Brod.

There are no glow plugs on mine either. I wouldn't worry to too much about the relay part number, relays can be used for other things.-mojo- wrote:Does a 1996 Transit diesel have glow plugs? My 1999 Mk5 didn't.

Ah yes, I must remember that. It's the fridge fuse I'm thinking of that sometimes skulks behind the battery (I think...).

In my 1999 Duetto, the fuses and relays were in a small black plastic box, mounted slightly in front of the starter battery. The habitation battery was mounted on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
All Duettos built on the MK4 and MK5 Transits had the 2.5DI engine (either turbo, or non turbo) and none of them were fitted with glow-plugs.

relays
Hi,
If I have not got glow plugs it might seem safe to assume the Bosch relay mounted above the starter battery is the one I am looking for.
The manual states 12v 30amp relay N/O the Bosch one is 75amp and this is the only thing that worries me.

Higher amp rating is (generally) no problem.

Interesting comment from Spospe.
Are the 2.5 DI and the 2.5 DI turbo the same engine with a turbo bolted on or are there other differences too?
Thanks
Fred

Re: location of relays and fuses
There are small differences between the 2 engines I believe. Mine was a non turbo that had a turbo fitted by TJ of Lancaster(now defunct) The fan belt is different for a start. My 1998 Duetto had the relay in the plastic box next to the vehicle battery. The relay operates when the engine is running and disconnects the interior fuse box and connects the fridge. No glowplugs its a direct injection engine, whatever that means

Relays
Hi,
I have now had a reply from Autosleeper.
They inform me that I will have to contact Ford. as the relays are fitted by them prior to delivering the chassis to Autosleeper.
Cheers

Re: location of relays and fuses
If you are going to ask a question Fred, and then go onto another forum ask the same question please rather than say the AS Forum was no help.
If you you has asked for relay connections you would have been told 87 to + on Vehicle battery 30 to + on Hab Battery, 86 to ground 85 to fridge relay,Ign/Fusebox, and Relay3 which disconnects the 12v electrical appliances from the Hab Battery whilst the vehicle is in motion.
I have a manual partly scanned for these vans which will appear in the Factsheets section as time permits
