Flat battery Symbol
Can anyone tell me why my 1995 Symbol is not charging the main battery when hooked up to 240v supply. During the winter I have been religiously hooking up to the mains so that I keep the battery in good condition. I have just had it charging for 24 hours and it is almost dead . It was a new battery last year. If anyone can help I would be delighted. Otherwise it will be the AA and a new battery! Thanks.

Re: Flat battery Symbol
If by main battery you mean engine battery, then the charger will not charge it. It only charges leisure battery. You will need a separate charger plugged in to a socket in the van or plugged in direct from your house mains and either crocodile clipped to the battery or into cigarette lighter via appropriate adaptor. Alternatively you could purchase a solar panel charger that can be left on the dashboard and connected by either method mentioned. Don't bother with a panel less than 4w as anything smaller will not put in more than the normal drainage so is pointless.

Thanks for your helpful reply. I'm afraid the cold and damp has got to my brain - the van is 2005 and not 1995 . Sorry !

Ah in that case have you got a rocker switch on the control panel to direct the charge to whichever battery needs it?

Yes have made sure that is all correct. Just been under the bonnet fiddling with wires etc and the dear old thing started! It must be a poor connection somewhere and nothing to do with the charging unit. I will investigate further but thanks for your prompt and helpful replies.
