Tripod base for table for outside use
Hi - can I purchase a tripod base for the wee table and leg in the Autosleeper Symbol 2005 - I want to be able to use the table outside.
Does anyone have any knowledge of such a mod?

Yes you can. Check that the leg you have is not too long for use with the tripod. The socket on the tripod is several inches above ground level.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
Thanks all for your most helpful replies - I hadn't considered table leg height.
I'll purchase the tripod that meanchris (see above) suggests.
This is a great site - don't know what I'd do without it.
Off down to Keswick this weekend for a few days walking.

I wasn't expecting much when I bought that tripod, but it's sturdier than I thought it would be, SWMBO is pleased with it (say no more hey) ;D

Hi daisy,
Where did you get the shorter 'coffee table' leg from?

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
Hi Dave,
Bought it from a caravan accessory shop. as it isn`t tapered like the longer legs it has a rubber end cap.
Probably buy it on line, if there isn`t a caravan / motorhome dealers near to you, it is a Fiamma leg made for the tripod stand,
Regards,
Margaret

My tripod takes a tapered leg so be careful what you buy to fit. I got my leg from O'Learys.

Campertronic on e-Bay £20.50 it is 70cm long with two rubber end caps, to make it tapered to fit the tripod, it can be cut down to any length that you want , this is the one that I bought from a MH dealers, this one is cheaper than I paid.

Margaret

Again, Margaret, we'll be buying one of these to use next year, for sarnis and glasses of wine/cidre.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
...made my shorter leg from a straight piece of an old apple tree branch, covered with an offcut of Fablon.
Don't use the table outside much, unfortunately, so couldn't justify buying another leg.
What's the saying - make do and mend......

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
A friend has just made me a tripod out of an old Christmas tree base. It's a round dish with a hole in the middle and three legs that slot in round the edge. He's made the table leg out of some drainpipe and a smaller bit stuck into the bottom to fit into the hole in the middle to steady it.
If anyone wants a table leg, I have one for sale £15 including postage. It's fluted at the ends but I don't see why it couldn't be cut down.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
Hi
If you have two tables you can join them together with the leg and one is then the base (with some protection underneath) the other the top. This is what our friends do.
Or you can make a base like this [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Thanks Doris - what a clever idea - just need to purchase table leg base fitting.
Can't wait for next year - sitting out in the sun on some sun drenched Scottish island, sipping a glass of wine, sherry with ice, chilled bear or the water of life with sandwiches - life's good.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
Thanks DaveH I should have added that we have drilled a couple of holes through the base to take tent pegs to ensure the table does not get knocked over.
What sun drenched Scottish Island? It has always rained when we go away in Scotland but France was very pleasant even alto it rained there as well.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
We've used the "two tables attached to one leg" idea too, but decided that it's too much faffing to have to put a mat under the bottom one, and the big flat area of even the smaller table isn't conducive to using it on a lumpy surface, it slides around too much.
The tripod is the neatest, lightest, and most easy to store solution for us.
We'll probably get hold of a coffee table sized leg though, as well as the two we already have for the tables.

Re: Tripod base for table for outside use
I have the two for the tables and a coffee sized one, that way I have multi choices how I want to use the tables, doesn`t take up much room either.

We have two table legs in the van but only ever use one - would it be an idea to cut the second leg down to coffee table size

Don't forget that you may need a taper at both ends, depending on the tripod fitting.

The shorter table leg will need the rubber ends to fit tripod.
