Underslung Autogas tank on Symbol
Hi,
I am considering fitting an underslung Autogas tank on my Symbol to supplement the 6kg Gaslow cylinder I have at the moment, this is to cut down the visits to gas depots in Spain.
The problem is, Where to fit it? looking underneath my 'van I can't see a space big enough to take even the smallest Autogas tank, there seems to be no room between the various water tanks & exhaust silencers.
On the Autogas website they show a 25 litre tank fitted underneath a Duetto which has room behind the sills but on my Boxer this space is obstructed by chassis struts.
I spoke to Autogas at the Malvern show & they said to bring the van to their works to see if it was possible, but driving to Thirsk from Essex is a long way to go to be told it can't be done
Has anyone out there any experience of fitting this system to a 2004 Symbol? I would be grateful for any information.
Kind regards, Mike.

My cousin has a Boxer (54 plate) converted by Wildax and has an underslung LPG tank on the near-side so I can only assume it must be possible unless AS have put a water/waste tank in the vacinity.

Hi Paul,
This is very interesting indeed, your cousin's boxer being a 2004 model, must be exactly the same as mine underneath and Wildax tend to fit bigger water tanks than A/S so maybe it's possible for me to have a gas tank fitted.
But, thinking about it, Wildax fit all tanks at the same time and can therefore plan the placing of them whereas A/S just fit them without considering a gas tank.
Is it possible to get any more info on this or maybe a piccy?
Thanks, Kind regards, Mike.

I won't be seeing him until the Lincoln show, third weekend September but I'll certainly take some photos then for you if you can wait until then.

Mike,
Sorry haven't replied to this before but just remembered. Unfortunately my cousin didn't make it to Lincoln so couldn't get the photos you wanted but having spoken to him I realise his Wildax is built on the LWB version not the MWB that the Symbol is built on, so that might be the difference whether a tank can be fitted or not. I had a chat with the guy on the Autogas stand at the Lincoln show and he showed me lots of underneath installation photos on his laptop of all sorts of base vehicles. You could ask him to email any he might have on a MWB Boxer if it helps you rather than that long journey to Thirsk.

Hi Paul,
I forgot to tell you, I also went to the Lincoln show, saw the Autogas guy & he actually came out to the car park & had a dekko underneath my Symbol but unfortunately there's no room for a tank, what with the fresh & waste water tanks, exhaust pipes, spare wheel, handbrake rods & all the other bit & pieces under there.
In Spain I'll just have to carry on as before, when my Gaslow cannister runs out, I switch over to a Campingaz 907 bottle until I get to one of the few depots over there.
Regards, Mike.

Gaslo
Sorry this may seem obvious and I think you must have already considered it.
You say you have a Gaslo cylinder, is it refillable? If not could you fit a refillable one?
At least that would mean you would not need to buy another tank for the continent, you would just refill at a petrol station.

I said I had a Gaslow tank & all Gaslow systems are refillable. I just wanted to add an Autogas underslung tank to increase capacity as there not that many garages in Spain dispensing LPG.

Just a thought, the Stratford (MWB Boxer) has an underslung gas tank. Does anyone know how it is fitted?

It's level with the step situated in the middle of the van.
If you find a post by Dolwen then look at his website link it takes you his Flickr pictures of his van including ones of underneath.
I have taken a couple on my phone but need to work out how to get them onto here,
