Duetto underfloor storage bins
Have just bought an early LWB Transit Duetto & am wondering about storage. Removing the back door cards and creating lockers there seems an obvious trick, but I wonder about making storage trays underneath between the chassis leg and the sill for tools & equipment. Has anyone tried this?

You can create a locker accessible from the back in the area behind the sink etc. If you pull the single seat just inside the sliding door forward to its 'recline' position you can fit a box under the front to take about 6 bottles. A rear box mounted on a tow bar or bike rack is another option.
I've not come across underfloor storage on any van conversion, just on coachbuilts.

Not much room. However most people get up to max weight just by filling the available space.edmason wrote:Have just bought an early LWB Transit Duetto & am wondering about storage. Re: Duetto underfloor storage bins
Hi there,
Mike has hit it spot on. The limitations are not so much "space" as "weight".
The reason our Duetto "Petal" has lasted so long and is in such good condition is that it is built like the proverbial brick outhouse! Nothing is flimsy and with "solidity" comes "weight".
By the time we have "Petal" loaded with ourselves, water, diesel, tool-kit, screens, ramps, step, clothing, bedding, food and essential supplies (e.g. wine) for a week of wild camping there is very little weight capacity remaining.
I suggest that you fill the van for a week away and then go and check everything out on the local weigh-bridge. Just remember that the maximum allowable weight doesn't have to be exceeded with the driver and any passengers onboard. (Obviously it helps if you are built like a racing snake; but unfortunately we don't fall into that category!!)
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Ian
