Are they connected to the booster or to a splitter?

Hi Gram there are 4 that come through a brown one that plugs into the arial socket attached to power socket-another that goes into ANT then there is2 laying loose and asplitter laying in the cupboard. There is a cable plugged in socket marked arial 2 that plugs into the tv.Question is what are the other 2 for.thanks Scotty.

Two cables connect to the external socket (near the water filler). One for terrestrial and one for satellite. Unless you plan to connect an aerial or dish to the external socket you can ignore them.

Scotty,

From what you and Nimbus are saying you appear to have a similar setup to my Symbol.

The external socket is useful if you get on a site which has poor reception and a TV connection is provided on the bollard.

However, you will need a coax cable to run between the external socket and the bollard, these are often available to purchase or hire from the site reception.

In order to use the external connection in this way one of the two unconnected cables was probably originally connected to the amplifier ANT socket, together with the cable from the roof aerial, via the splitter (which in this configuration is used as a combiner) - but as the splitter introduces a small amount of attenuation it may have been taken out of circuit in order to maximise the available signal from the roof aerial.

You will need to use a continuity tester to check which cable goes to which external connector.  A battery, bulb and a long piece of wire will do the job.

Yes, you can use the external point.  Connect your Multimo dish to the external satellite screw connector and connect the internal end of the coax to the Sky box.

You can check which cable is which by trial and error when you have the Multimo connected if you prefer.  Try each cable into your Sky box in turn - but I don't know if the Sky box will give you an instant indication of continuity.

I take it that the black one that comes through the grommet with the other 3 white ones is the one that goes in to the coax point thats attached to power socket, then there areanother two white of the same diameter, ithink they must be thetwo externel and the smaller diameter one was plugged into the ANT socket?

You said earlier that the brown coax is connected to the coax point attached to the power socket - presumably the TV plugs into this socket.

I would advise that you first get the TV to work from the roof aerial by plugging the coax from the roof aerial into the ANT socket of the amplifier and connecting the coax point cable to a TV socket on the amplifier (i.e. one of the remaining two).  Ensure the power to the amplifier is on.

Once you get the TV working then the remaining two cables, which are likely to be identical in size and colour, will be the cables from the external connector box.

For the time being, until you get your TV working on both the roof aerial and the satellite system, forget the splitter.

I am assuming (never assume, I hear you say) that there is only one aerial socket in the van and this serves the fixed TV.

Hi gram thanks for your patience, when i bought the van it had the std 10" avtex, i have taken that out and replaced it with the 16" avtex that i had in our coachbuilt. We had that for 4yrs but only with roof mounted dish and sky box that was simple,so when i get my multimo at the w/end ill just go from ext sat pointto dish then find the other end and insert in box job done hopefully. I just thought i would try anduse the internal freeview thats in the tv but have not managed to get past auto retune it just ses no signal ( that might be because its next to my garage and the signal is being blocked out ill give it a try later when i can move it to clearer plot.Ta

Scotty, if you can't get a Freeview signal in the open then check:

1) Roof aerial cable is connected to ANT on the amplifier
2) Amplifier output is connected to the coax outlet serving the TV
3) Coax outlet is connected to the TV
4) Amplifier is powered up
5) The Gain control, if there is one, on the amplifier is at Max
6) The TV auto-tune is scanning for a DTV signal and not an analogue TV signal.

Good luck.

Hi Gram have set it up as you say but when it has finished auto tune 100% it just cimes up with start auto tune again so ithink it needs doing in a open space.the smaller dia white cable is in ant andthe  black one goes up into thearial socket next to 12v pwer in the cupboard and the other two pushed out the way ready for ext use. Ihave not had any sound or pictures at all so the arial must be obscured?CheersScotty

Hi Scotty. Have you not got a signal strength meter that will show you if you are pointing the arial in the right direction? Or is it the simple circular antenna?
