Power Steering (Again!)
Hi everyone,
You may remember our recent problem with a leak on the power steering on our Symphony.
Well, following advice from the garage that carried out the repair, which was that flexible hoses from the pump were also heavily corroded, and should be replaced ASAP, we took "Alice" to our local garage, only to discover that the part is now discontinued. Ours is a 1995 model, but I guess we still thought we could get all the bits!
Our garage is trying to get some second hand ones, but is also advising that we really have nothing to worry about, and that it is unlikely the existing ones will give trouble, which puts us in a bit of a bind. Who do you believe? we aren't competent to make a decision, and we now have two pieces of conflicting expert advice!
Any thoughts, and also any suggestions or comments on the availability (or otherwise) of spares for the base vehicle?
regards
Jeff and Di

Assuming your Symphony of 1995 vintage is built on the Boxer base and not on the Talbot Express, I wouldn't worry too much about availability of spares, after-all the Boxer Mark 1 continued to 2001 with only a facelift then , and then to 2006 until the X250 Boxer/Ducato replaced it. If yours is a Talbot which I suppose it could be then there are a couple of specialist spares suppliers.

Thanks Paul,
We are on the Boxer base vehicle. I guess we should just try to source the part ourselves and see what happens. It's a problem when you don't have enough knowledge to make easy decisions.

As mentioned by another poster.
If all else fails, give Pirtek a ring.
They manufacture high pressure piping, and can make an
exact copy of your fitting
I had a braided high pressure lpg hose
and fitting made up by them, for my old ldv convoy.
Your nearest branch would be in bristol.

Have used Pirtek in derby very knowledgable they deal with people like you (us) everyday and are far more competetive than main dealers
