Fuel Capacity.
I am trying to find out the capacity of the fuel tank on my Peugeot Boxer "Harmony". We are heading off to Scotland and our first day mileage will be 484 miles. I have worked out our fuel consumption at about 25 mpg for motorway travel and need to know where I will take on fuel (not at M/way filling stations). In my Peugeot handbook it states the fuel tank size is between 70-80 litres depending on which model base van. I can get no further ! The registration document states the vehicle as Boxer 290 LX SWB HDI. Can anyone help ?

Re: Fuel Capacity.
Hi there,
I haven't a clue how many gallons or litres you may be able to stick in the tank but, assuming that it is a diesel engine, 25mpg seems a bit low.
Accelerate slowly, get into a high gear quickly, use the brakes sparingly and keep the speed below 50mph and you should go a lot further on each tankful.
Best regards,

Re: Fuel Capacity.
Same with ours. Not a clue and Marquis didn't know. Great eh?
There are several options with the Sprinter chassis and I am slowly building a profile recording fills etc. Similar mileage to you at an average of 26mpg. BUT I don't hold up other traffic
Seems a bit pointless having all that Bhp and not to cruise at a decent pace.

Re: Fuel Capacity.
Hi I dont know the size.
However if you assume 70l you will have 10l reserve if it is a 80 l tank.
You should do 350 miles on the smaller tank.
On your trip if you stop about250/ 300 miles you will only need one stop.
Plan a fuel stop in that window.
regards
Mike

Re: Fuel Capacity.
Yeah same here Jaytee, if you have to travel nearly 500 miles in one day you don't want to be traveling at 50 mph ! And thanks Mikeyval, I've done some google searches and I think ours is probably 80 litres also.

Hi there,
Sorry, forgot about the diesel prices!
On the east coast they usually have the best prices at:
o Morrisons Berwick on Tweed.
o ASDA at Dunbar.

Re: Fuel Capacity.
I monitor diesel fuel usage and cost per mile on our motorhome and our car. I have found there are two ways to increase MPG and hence reduce cost:
1. I tend to fill up with premium branded diesel, BP Ultimate for preference; avoid supermarket fuel if possible (although in rural France it's often the only choice). The extra MPG balances the higher cost per litre and the engine runs better for it
2. I let Mrs B drive as often as possible! She has a much lighter touch on the throttle and cruises at a lower speed than I do.
We have a Tunit device fitted which works well with our retrofit cruise control when on the motorway as well as making her* more lively around town
* the motorhome, not Mrs B !!!

Re: Fuel Capacity.
Hi ... Dandy Dinmont camping site is at Junction 44 of the M6 motorway at Carlisle which would be about your 300 mile mark. It is just a mile from the junction and an excellent stop off for travelling north. There are several filling stations near the junction which won't charge motorway prices. Google it ... I think it closes in winter. Enjoy your trip.

Hi
I have a 80lr tank on my Executive (petrol) which does about 22/23 mpg and I always fill up at Morrisons in Leyland, on our way up to our son in Scotland. We usually have fish and chips there as well.

Hi, Mike
Details here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
One of the advantages we have found is that because of the improved torque, we no longer 'pop out' of cruise control in 5th gear on minor inclines, only on a fairly steep hill now.

Hm, seems you're right, sorry about that.
Ours is the Boxer 320 MWB 2.8HDi 2002
Not sure if there's anything else available for yours,
perhaps others here may know.
cheers
