Waste/drain hose & tap
Hi has anyone got ant advice on waste /drain hose & tap for a Ford Duetto. Ours keeps bunging up and now the bottom part of tap has broken off since we last used it. We will have to get a new one. Is it worth replacing the whole lot from the tank with a bigger hose and tap? Would appreciate any advice or experiences anyone else has had with this problem.
Thank you in advance June.

If it is a Duetto where the drain pipe is held up with a terry clip and can be dropped down to aid draining, I would just replace like for like.

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
If the drain hose is like the Symphony we had, then the hose is quite a large bore anyway but the taps AS fit are like home-brew barrel taps and have a small outlet hole which together with a right-angle bend give a slow output and are prone to blocking up. I replaced my tap with one of these, much quicker flow and no clogging up....

Hi there,
Not sure why your hose should keep bunging up!!
We only have a standard 15mm ID hose fitted with a "straight through" plastic ball valve and it has never blocked!!
Whenever we empty the tank we slop about a quarter bottle of Tesco's cheapest orange cordial down into the tank and it keeps it sweet.
I suggest that you keep an eye on what people stick down the sinks!!
It is an absolute "No-No" to put grease or fat down our sinks but anything else that goes through the plug-hole is fair game.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Hi
Cut the tap off and replace it with one of the wine bottle rubber stoppers. I have used this for the past few years with different vans
Works a treat NO moving parts to clog up or seize up, and very cheap
Andy.

In view of the fact that I have just spent about £15 on a 15mm ball-valve complete with screw-in adaptors and jubilee clips I think your idea is absolutely the worst suggestion I have ever heard.
Especially as I have two rubber "ribbed" wine bottle stoppers in the kitchen drawer that hardly ever get used; due to the fact that we almost always finish the bottle in one go.
What really makes me peeved is that I'm pretty sure you Posted this tip a few months ago and having thought "Yes!" I forgot!
Many thanks!
Ian

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
Andy, do you always drain down your waste tank before driving off from a Site? How secure is the bottle stopper in transit. Or can it vibrate off the pipe and dump waste water on the road?
Paul, is your 1/2" ball valve bore the same size internally as the hose bore. If not this has the potential to cause any solids to build up in front of the valve and block the outlet in time.
I would always fit a valve that has the same internal size as the hose, so that any fluid & waste product has a smooth exit out of the hose.

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
My tap fits the inside diameter of the hose but it comes apart in three parts so it is simple to dismantle if it blocks whereas the original type cannot be taken apart.

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
Hi guys
I don't always empty the waste tank when I move off site and the stopper has never bee forced out by the wast water slopping around.
I am not over fussy about what I flush down the drain but when on sites I would use the washing up area (except when it's raining)
Cheers

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
Thank you for all your replies. Very helpful. Dutto I'm very careful about what I put down the sink indoors as well as in the van, this problem has been like this since we first bought the van, which was absolutely full up and had been for sometime so I have used all sorts of things to try and clean it and keep it as fresh as possible.
Thank you to all of you with useful answers x

Re: Waste/drain hose & tap
Hi there,
It stopped raining long enough for me to empty the waste tank so I decided to change out the new valve. (I think I have a use for it at home!)
These are the two Waste Pipe Terminations .....
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
.... and this is with the new "Bung" in place.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I've left the Jubilee Clip and bit of pipe around the waste pipe in place because the clip that holds the pipe underneath is for a larger diameter pipe.
At the moment we are parked up for a couple of weeks so we will see how it performs "on-site" and we will keep you posted if it doesn't do the trick; but I can't see why it wouldn't.
Thanks Andy.

That looks fine, and should work ok,
but take care when you go to empty it as it will come out with a whoosh.
My bung is more rubbery than yours.
