Additional/bigger leisure battery Empty Additional/bigger leisure battery

Post by RichardB Fri Sep 27, 2013 11:54 am

Hi all
Has anyone fitted a bigger capacity leisure battery to their van under the drivers seat?

I wanted to put a bigger capacity one in but have been told that I can't because it you can't get one that will fit under the drivers seat where the original one is.

I asked about adding a second battery elsewhere but but there isn't anywhere suitable for it to go in the Harmony - I don;t want to loose the safe fitted under the passenger sear and on other vans it could fit behind the driver in the bench seat but in the Harmony this folds out of the way to turn it into a travel seat.

Any advice would be appreciated

I'm sure that someone did this a while ago, try searching the archives.

Its down to do you need extra capacity or would it just be nice and how much cost and effort do you want to put in?

Would the installation of a solar panel fulfil your need?

Could two smaller batteries replace the existing one in the current location but combined give a larger capacity?

Would you want a battery box under the floor?

Is there any floor level storage in the van that you could give up to a battery?

Thanks.

We are looking at doing most of our camping away from electric hook up so need to make sure the battery can handle a good few days use.

Solar Panels are a possibility for the future but need to work out what will fit on the roof and I can afford - probably a project for early next year.

The van is a 1999 Harmony (had it two weeks) and at the moment the van is away having a major service and they have told me that the current battery needs replacing (14 year old van) and that I can't get a larger capacity battery to fit in under the drivers seat.  I have asked them to see if they could fit two smaller ones in and they are going to see what they can do.

I think for the time being if they can't I will just get the current one replaced and then look at it altogether with the solar panels next year
