Silver Screens
Hello, does anyone have any advice on buying Silver Screens please. We love our new symbol (Dorset/Marquis) but the front curtains just get in the way. Ideally we would like screens that can be used externally and also internally as well.
Many thanks

Re: Silver Screens
Internal screens and external screens are two different animals.
After using internal screens on our last van, I wouldn't go back to them. They cause a lot of condensation and the suckers tend to come unstuck in the night. External every time for me.
Different people think differently though, some have reasons for preferring internal ones.

Re: Silver Screens
Hi Bartonfolk,
I also use external screens which are excellent for keeping the screen condensation free.
Two provisos,
I don't use them if I am wild camping in case I need to drive away from the site without exiting the van.
They are a bit of a nuisance if it rains over night. I stuff mine in a bucket and place it in the toilet compartment, but it is still means extra dampness inside the van.

Re: Silver Screens
I bought Paragon silver screens, exterior ones, very pleased with them, a bit bulky but mine in their dedicated bag supplied with the screens, fit in the over cab locker when not in use, well recommended.

Re: Silver Screens
Would you mind giving a bit more info on what size they pack down to? My van's the same size as yours, and I'm looking at getting Paragons, but as mine is a pop-top I'm ~really~ tight on space. Presumably they roll up, but can you say roughly what diameter/length roll you end up with when they are packed up? Thanks!daisy mae wrote:I bought Paragon silver screens, exterior ones, very pleased with them, a bit bulky but mine in their dedicated bag supplied with the screens, fit in the over cab locker when not in use, well recommended.

Re: Silver Screens
Just been out to measure, in the dedicated bag they are 36" x 15" x 3" ( 90cm x 38cm x 7.5cm ) they fit nicely in my Luton, over the cab.
I have tried to roll them and I can`t, but did fold them into 3 and that makes them 16" x 12" x 5.5" ( 40cm x 30cm x 14cm ) , perhaps you could roll them. I don`t know whether anyone who has rolled them may see this thread. They are excellent quality and fit a treat.
Hope this helps in some way.
Regards
Margaret

Re: Silver Screens
Here's my tuppence-worth, never bothered with silver-screens until I fancied buying something else for the van (sad or what).
HOWEVER, it was the best thing i've done, BAGS more room in the van, no faffing with curtains etc, they are fitted in about 30 seconds, no condensation whatsoever, (had loads with the curtains) they ARE waterproof & can easily be tight-rolled into a small bundle, they live in the toilet/shower room whilst travelling, & if left on during the day in the sun, helps to keep the interior cooler, can't praise them enough.

Yes it was the curtain faffing especially that made me want the silver screens! The other half identified the practical benefits!

Many thanks for the detailed info. Looks like a set might fit on top of my levelling ramps...daisy mae wrote:Just been out to measure, in the dedicated bag they are 36" x 15" x 3" ( 90cm x 38cm x 7.5cm ) they fit nicely in my Luton, over the cab.

Re: Silver Screens
I'm tempted after reading these comments to go for a set of the Paragon ones for my T4 Topaz. Presumably they will be available at the NEC show in October - does anybody know if there's a special price if bought at the show or would I be just as well buying online (unless I see a used set of course).

Re: Silver Screens
The 'Silver Screens' brand are rarely at shows. 'Taylormade' are however but you'll have to excuse the chap on the stand, he really does lack the 'customer service' attitude and comes across as rude, his wife however is the opposite.ssjohnl wrote:I'm tempted after reading these comments to go for a set of the Paragon ones for my T4 Topaz. The Siver Screens I have are from the original inventers, based in West Yorkshire, tel for a quote 01274872151
Google Silver Screens and there is a video plus info on all models, plus photos, they will do a made to measure, the ones I have, have Velcro between the sides and main screen, so that enables me to unfold to let in light in the daytime, no need to remove if staying pitched up. can also be used internally if needed, I have this summer when on my drive to keep cooler, sorry couldn`t lay my hands on the receipt, I found them to be well worth every penny.
I have no connection with this firm in anyway, except as a very happy customer.

Re: Silver Screens
Another fan of external screens. After a winter of using internal screens and mopping every morning we splashed out on a set, best buy and they are not too bulky. Even when folded down we can squash them into a corner of the Topaz wardrobe.

Re: Silver Screens
.............and the advantage of the "Para-gone" (Silver Screens make) is that you can drop the front down to allow more natural light
Yes we used our external screens all the time on our Tour and can't rate them enough. The dedicated bag is also waterproof, so even if you put them away wet you don't have to worry about storing whist on the move (except for ensuring they are upright, obviously)
Worth paying the extra for Para-gone in my opinion

Re: Silver Screens
I ordered the Taylormade ones which cost £130 plus p/p they are the shorter ones for the windscreen plus sides. I've also ordered the net at £20 which gives some privacy when front screen partly folded down.
Thanks again for everyone's comments and advice.

Re: Silver Screens
Hi There, Just to throw my opinion in too I have had 2 sets of screens so far, the first were millenco "semi generic ones" which never seemed to fit properly and had big gaping gaps in them, the second set are the Paragon Silver screens which i got second hand from either this forum or ebay and I have to say they are the best things I have ever bought, Cool in the summer and warm in the winter with the bonus of the fold down section for daylight if required. I have 2 internal screens for the rear windows and they do nothing but fall off halfway through the night as someone else said earlier. The paragon screens are also possible to use internally according to the website you simply flip them and fit them on the inside, I have never tried this so cant comment as to how well that works

Hi there I use a Taylormade screen on the outside in the winter then in the summer remove the door sides and use the centre bit inside the van to keep the sun off the seats. Works well for me.
Best regards, Mike

Re: Silver Screens
Hi to all,
We've had Taylormade external screens on our last 2 vans, had this set for over 2 years. The velcro is starting to lose its grip but they still work great. Van is used every weekend so they have been on & off dozens of times. I modified mine when I first got them, I fitted a couple of eylets so I could tie them to the door handles ( Peugeot boxer old shape) as they blew up at the sides if it was windy. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Hi
Of all the accessories I have bought for various vans, I rate the external Silver Screens have got to be up
There with the best of them.

Re: Silver Screens
Quick update to this thread - I just ordered and quickly received a set of the Just Kampers screens. Fit is good and it looks like if you have folding mirrors there is no need to add an extra velcro strap, as the mirrors look as though they will hold the front corners down even in a gale (but I might be proved wrong on that!).
They are looking a bit creased, as just out of the shipping bag - hoping to crease them more evenly all over in time. They also have a velcro strip down each side of the screen which I've put back a bit wonky after testing folding down the top part of the screen section. I haven't had a chance to compare them side-by-side with a Paragon set. They are probably a bit thinner, but at just under £50 shipped (one third the price) I'd expect there to be some compromise.

Yeah I know, trying them on in the garage seems a bit weird, but it was late by the time I got home and I didn't want to disturb the neighbours by messing about with it on the drive...
